UFC News: Marvin Vettori Explains Withdrawal From UFC Fight Night Main Event

"The Italian Dream" was scheduled to compete for the first time this year.

Marvin Vettori has updated fans on the reason he was forced out of a matchup with Brendan Allen just weeks before they were set to meet in a UFC Fight Night main event.

“The Italian Dream” was set to met Allen in pivotal middleweight fight on April 6 at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, but yesterday it was reported that Vettori had withdrawn from UFC Vegas 90 for undisclosed reasons.

Allen was quick to propose replacement matchups with several of the middleweight division’s biggest names, and now Vettori has revealed via his Instagram page that it was an injury that forced him out of the fight.

The main event bout on April 6 would have been a huge chance for Vettori to get back into the win column following a decision loss to Jared Cannonier, especially given that the 30-year-old hasn’t won back-to-back fights in nearly three years while Allen is currently on an impressive six-fight win streak.

Losing Allen vs. Vettori is a huge blow to UFC Vegas 90, and unless “All In” can get a short-notice replacement opponent it looks like former champion Germaine De Randamie’s return against #11-ranked bantamweight Norma Dumont might have to slot in as the card’s main event.

UFC Vegas 90 currently still features a total of 13 bouts and includes the promotional debut of Johnny Walker's brother Valter Walker, and with the loss of Allen vs. Vettori the card currently looks like this:

Main Card

• Alatengheili Alateng vs. Victor Hugo

• Trevor Peek vs. Charlie Campbell
