Scottie Pippen's Nike Sneakers Just Sold Out Faster Than Michael Jordan's

In this story:
The dynastic Chicago Bulls teams of the 1990s raised the bar for excellence in the NBA and the footwear industry. Of course, Michael Jordan sits atop the throne for accomplishments in the league and the sneaker world. However, his former teammate, Scottie Pippen, just had a strong showing this weekend.
Jordan Brand continuously pushes out retro Air Jordans in new and OG colorways, resulting in even the most treasured sneakers sitting on shelves and discount racks. Meanwhile, Pippen's retro Nike shoes are released more sporadically.
There are plenty of variables that could explain why it happened, but Pippen jumped over Jumpman for at least one weekend. Below is a detailed breakdown of each Hall of Famer's sneakers that dropped this weekend.
Nike Air More Uptempo '96 "Black White"

The Nike Air More Uptempo '96 "Black White" colorway dropped on Friday, August 21. The retro basketball shoes sold out on release day across the Nike SNKRS app and at select retailers. The kicks had a retail price of $170 in adult sizes, but now have asking prices above $200 in every size on the sneaker resale platform GOAT.

The Nike Air More Uptempo '96 colorway is beloved by fans for its "AIR" branding on the medial and lateral sidewalls. The Nike Swooshes and Nike Air branding complete the iconic look. The "Black White" colorway combined with more premium materials accentuates the classic design.
Air Jordan 1 Low OG "Laser"

While Pippen's Nike sneakers exceeded expectations, Jordan had two sneakers release as part of the "Laser" pack. First, the Air Jordan 1 Low OG "Laser" was released on Saturday, August 22. The low-cut sneakers are still in stock in most adult sizes for $165. Even better, they are available below the retail price in most sizes on StockX.

The "Laser" colorway features laser-etched illustrations on the upper that celebrate Jordan's life, personal interests, and playing career. The silhouette sports a premium black leather upper with Varsity Red and Summit White detailing.
Air Jordan 3 "Laser"

The Air Jordan 3 "Laser" was also released on Saturday, August 22. The retro sneakers are still in stock in some adult sizes for $230 at Nike. Some sizes are available below the retail price on StockX, but the rare kicks are unlikely to dip much further in asking price.

In February 2003, Jordan Brand gifted MJ a laser-engraved Air Jordan 3 colorway for his 40th birthday. After 23 years, the sneakers were finally released to the public.
Despite their legendary status, they didn't sell out immediately. Laser-etched illustrations appear on the Phantom and Palomino upper, while all of the classic details remain true to the original Air Jordan 3.
Pippen has an incredible legacy, but even that cannot compare to what Jordan accomplished on the court and in the footwear industry. However, Pippen got the win this weekend. Stay locked into Sports Illustrated's Kicks On SI for all your footwear news from the NBA and beyond.
