Following a lengthy process, it was announced on Thursday that Anthony Robinson has been named Little Rock Central’s next head football coach.

Robinson previously served as an assistant at Conway and was a part of three 7A semifinal finishes over in as seasons with the Wampus Cats. He replaces George Shelton who stepped down in January following back-to-back 0-10 seasons.

Along with Conway, Robinson had stints at Searcy and Magnolia, as well as Lancaster (Texas). The Little Rock Hall alum began his coaching career at Arkansas State, where he played collegiately, as an offensive graduate assistant. Robinson played wide receiver for Arkansas State from 2007-09.

Central is historically the most successful football program in state history with 32 state championships but have fallen on hard times over the past two decades, especially as of recent. The Tigers have not won a game since upsetting Fayetteville in the final seconds of the opening round of the 7A playoffs in November 2020.
