ANAHEIM– Fairmont Prep edged out Mira Costa 45-44 on Wednesday night in an absolute nail-biter of a Southern Section Division 1 second round matchup to punch its ticket to the semifinals.
Siyanda Salter got going in the low post down the stretch to score 11 points in the second half alone and lead all scorers with 13 points, including the game-winner with 1.1 seconds left. She also had 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Maddie Salud had 11 points on three made triples to go with four assists for the Huskies, and Andrea Javier and Maile Oshita added seven points and six points, respectively.
Maile Nakaji led the Mustangs with 11 points, Kristyn Kim scored nine, Winslow Smith had eight, and Hayden Lim scored seven. Mira Costa was afflicted by the loss of starting guard Cara Susilo, who took a hard fall in the second quarter and did not return to the game. Here's our complete highlight video from the game:
