The 2022 high school baseball season is underway across the San Diego Section, which means it is time to take a closer look at the best players in the section.

We talked to coaches and evaluated players across the Section to compile our preseason All-San Diego Section Team — eight pitchers and 12 position players. SBLive’s preseason All-San Diego Section Team was compiled by reporter Bodie DeSilva.

ALL-SAN DIEGO SECTION FIRST TEAM

PITCHERS

P: Cody Delvecchio – Mission Hills – Senior

Cody Delvecchio Mission Hills

Delvecchio was excellent for the Grizzlies last season, finishing the year 10-1 with a 1.86 ERA. He struck out 119 batters in only 75.1 innings and started his senior campaign with a 13-strikeout effort against Chaparral last week. He's signed with UCLA.

P: Vaughn Major – Christian – Junior

Vaughn Major Christian

Major posted video game numbers as a sophomore, finishing 10-1 with a 1.07 ERA for the Division 3 champion Patriots. He struck out 100 batters in 65.1 innings and is committed to UC Santa Barbara.

P: Zach Isaacman – Torrey Pines – Senior

Zach Isaacman Torrey Pines

Isaacman kept batters off balance all season, allowing 36 hits and ten earned runs all season. He finished with an 8-2 record and 1.21 ERA.

P: Ryan Ellis – Patrick Henry – Senior

Ellis led the way for the Patriots, striking out 75 in 59.2 innings last season. He finished the season 5-2 with a 1.88 ERA and also hit .341 with four doubles when he wasn't on the mound. Ellis has signed with Santa Clara.

P: Koda Alto – Santana – Senior

Alto had a breakout season for the Sultans as a junior, helping the Sultans make their way into the Open Division playoffs. He finished the year 9-0 with a 2.17 ERA.

P: Chaz McRoberts – St. Augustine – Senior

McRoberts had a strong junior season for the Saints, finishing 7-1 with a 1.34 ERA and 53 strikeouts. He's signed with Loyola Marymount.

P: Finn McIlroy – Carlsbad – Senior

Finn McIlroy Carlsbad

McIlroy, also a standout water polo player, begins his fourth varsity season for the Lancers. He went 3-1 last season with a 1.83 ERA and struck out 30 batters in 34.1 innings. He's signed to play both baseball and water polo at UCLA.

P: Tyler Bremner – Scripps Ranch – Senior

Bremner has been limited to only 59.1 innings during his first three varsity seasons but has 72 strikeouts during that time. He was San Diego's only representative at this past summer's Area Code games scouting showcase. He's signed with UC Santa Barbara.

CATCHERS

C: Jake Bold – La Jolla Country Day – Senior

Jake Bold La Jolla Country Day

Bold had a on-base percentage of .487 as a junior to go along with five doubles, three triples, and six home runs. He's signed with Princeton.

C: Zac Farrell – San Marcos – Senior

Zac Farrell San Marcos

Farrell had an on-base percentage of .445 last season. He also was among San Diego's leaders with nine home runs and stole ten bases. Farrell recently committed to Army.

INFIELDERS

INF: Ryan Rivera – San Marcos – Senior

Ryan Rivera San Marcos

Rivera had a whopping .579 on-base percentage during his first season with San Marcos last season, hitting 12 home runs and 12 doubles. He's signed with San Diego State.

INF: Grant MacArthur – Granite Hills – Senior

Grant MacArthur Granite Hills

MacArthur had an on-base percentage of .504 last season to go along with ten doubles and seven home runs and then went and won the postseason home run derby at Petco Park. He's signed with Hawaii.

INF: Trevor Fox – St. Augustine – Senior

Trevor Fox St. Augustine

The six-foot-seven Fox hit .361 as a junior for the Saints with seven home runs, six doubles, and three triples. He's one of several top seniors from San Diego to have signed with San Diego State.

INF: Ian Halverson – Mission Vista – Senior

Ian Halverson Mission Vista

Halverson has put up big numbers for the Timberwolves since first stepping on the field as a freshman. He enters his final season with a career average of over .400 and will see time at shortstop and pitcher. He's signed with Cal Baptist.

INF: Ryan Ward – Coronado – Senior

Ward is one of California's top shortstops. He was a long time Arizona commit but switched his commitment to Arkansas last year following a coaching change with the Wildcats.

OUTFIELDERS

OF: Kyle Becker – Del Norte – Senior

Becker hit .423 with five home runs and five doubles last season for the Nighthawks. He also contributed on the mound with 58 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.28 in 40 innings. Becker has signed with Nevada.

OF: Luke Rhee – St. Augustine – Senior

Rhee sets the table for the Saints, posting a .456 on-base percentage as a junior. He struck out only five times in 115 plate appearances and stole 17 bases for St. Augustine.

OF: Noah Barnes – Grossmont – Senior

Barnes hit .468 last season for the Open Division runners-up. He had eight doubles, two triples, six home runs and opened his senior season with a home run against Westview this week.

OF: Nick Cook – Poway – Senior

Cook had a .513 on-base percentage for the Titans to go along with five home runs and four doubles during his junior season.

OF: Kien Vu – Point Loma – Senior

Vu's on-base percentage was .402 last season. He had six doubles, six home runs, and a triple for the Pointers and struck out 28 batters during 25.2 innings on the mound.
