There was loads of speed and strength when Oakland small-school power McClymonds traveled Friday to Pittsburg, the state's 13th-ranked team.

The two teams didn't disappoint with loads of big plays both short and long.

The hitting was hard and crisp and clean. The moves and explosive runs were exhilarating.

In the end, Pittsburg just had a little more depth and didn't make the critical errors McClymonds did in the Pirates' 39-21 victory.

The game certainly didn't feel like an 18-point margin. But Pittsburg and coach Vic Galli will take it. In fact, McClymonds' coach Michael Peters, the father of NFL cornerback Marcus Peters, was pleased how close his Warriors kept it.

Enjoy the action featuring game-busters galore, including Oregon State-bound Pittsburg receiver and cornerback Zachary Card who chases down Zaivian Thomas in the fourth quarter, preventing an 80-yard touchdown and a possible tie game.

Card finished sixth in the state 100-meter dash last May and has run a best of 10.47 seconds. He might have been the only player in the East Bay able to catch Thomas, who earlier had a 63-yard touchdown and finished with 163 yards on 16 carries.

The play was pivotal, because three plays, later, the Warriors fumbled and Boyd recovered and a few plays after that, the Pirates were in the end zone to essentially put this one away.
