Photos: Mater Dei Catholic cruises past Imperial in San Diego Section Division 1 girls championship

Mater Dei Catholic faced little resistance during their three-game run to the San Diego Section championship.

SAN DIEGO -- In a battle between the top two seeds in the San Diego Section Division 1 girls basketball bracket, it was top-seed Mater Dei Catholic that cruised to a 58-43 victory.

After an opening round bye, the Crusaders had defeated their past two opponents by a combined 51 points and continued that trend against Imperial on Friday night. It marks the first CIF title for Mater Dei Catholic since they defeated San Marcos for the Division 1 championship in 2017.

Senior guard Koko Akridge led the Crusaders with 18 points while senior forward Elissa St. Julien contributed 12 points off the bench.
