MISSION VIEJO, CALIFORNIA — Senior quarterback Elijah Brown threw four touchdown passes - to four different receivers - to lead Mater Dei to a 35-0 victory over Serra-San Mateo on Saturday night in the CIF State Open Division football championship game at Saddleback College.

This marks the fourth state football title for the Monarchs (13-1) in program history. Mater Dei closed out the season with a six-game winning streak. 

Brown completed touchdown passes to Mark Bowman (16 yards), Marcus Harris (74 yards), Jonah Smith (12 yards) and Michael Shannon (31 yards). Brown completed 17-of-22 passes for 298 yards.

The Monarchs defense held Serra to only 58 yards of total offense.

The Padres were handed their first loss of the season and finished 12-1 overall.

This was a rematch of the 2021 Open Division state title game that Mater Dei won 44-7.
