Staples (Connecticut) names Matthew Jacowleff as next head football coach

The 2023 CIAC Class LL state champion Staples Wreckers have decided on who the successor to departed Adam Behrends will be.
Wreckers didn't have to look far as they promoted associate head coach/offensive coordinator Matthew Jacowleff as the program's next head football coach on Wednesday afternoon.
Down below is the official announcement posted on X by the Staples football program:
"IT IS WITH GREAT EXCITEMENT THAT WE ANNOUNCE THE APPOINTMENT OF MATTHEW (MATTY) JACOWLEFF AS THE NEW HEAD COACH OF THE STAPLES HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PROGRAM.
COACH JACOWLEFF BRINGS A WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND UNMATCHED PASSION TO THIS NEW ROLE. A PROUD 2015 GRADUATE OF STAPLES HIGH SCHOOL, MATTHEW WENT ON TO EARN HIS BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION FROM NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY, FOLLOWED BY A MASTER OF ARTS IN SECONDARY EDUCATION FROM FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY. MATTHEW IS CURRENTLY A FULL-TIME TEACHER AT STAPLES HIGH SCHOOL. ON THE FIELD, MATTHEW WAS A CAPTAIN FOR THE 2014 WRECKERS FOOTBALL TEAM.
HIS COMMITMENT TO THE PROGRAM NEVER WAVERED, AND IN 2019, HE RETURNED TO THE STAPLES GRIDIRON AS A MEMBER OF THE COACHING STAFF. OVER THE YEARS, HE HAS SERVED IN NUMEROUS CAPACITIES, INCLUDING ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH, OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, WIDE RECEIVER COACH, DEFENSIVE BACKS COACH AND HEAD JUNIOR VARSITY COACH. IN ADDITION TO HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FOOTBALL PROGRAM, MATTHEW HAS ALSO BEEN AN ASSISTANT COACH WITH THE BOYS LACROSSE PROGRAM AND IS A FAMILIAR FACE AT MANY OF OUR ATHLETIC EVENTS WHEN HE IS NOT ON THE FIELD. STAPLES HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, VI SARULLO, SHARES, "WE ARE INCREDIBLY EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE COACH MATTY AS OUR NEW HEAD FOOTBALL COACH. Behrends left Staples to accept becoming an offensive analyst at the University of New Mexico. Last season, Behrends guided the Wreckers to a 10-2 record.
Over Behrends six seasons at the helm, he led the Wreckers to an overall mark of 40-16, including winning the CIAC's Class LL state championship in 2023.
