LAKELAND, Fla. - The 2022 Florida high school girls basketball championships continued on Friday with the Class 7A semifinals.

Here’s a recap:

Class 7A semifinal No. 1: Dr. Phillips 79, Vero Beach 57

Dr. Phillips is heading back to the state championship for the first time since the 2013-2014 season after a 79-57 win over the Vero Beach Lady Indians in the FHSAA 7A semifinals.

The Lady Panthers led wire-to-wire and were paced by sophomore guard Trinity Turner and senior guard Kalea Rainey. Rainey finished with 23 points, while Turner added 22.

“It’s crazy to be back in this stage after struggling for the last few seasons,” Dr. Phillips head coach Anthony Jones said.

The Lady Indians finish the season with a record of 23-4. They came into the game riding a 17-game winning streak that dated back to December 13.

Vero Beach was led by freshman forward Jaida Civil who finished with a team-high 18 points and 16 rebounds. Davionne Stinson added 14 points.

The Stingarees were led by Janay Quinn who finished with a game-high 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Joelle Wilson added 10 points.

The Lady Grenadiers put a lot of pressure on Miami High in the second half and cut the deficit all the way to two points at one stretch in the fourth quarter.

“We’re back where we belong … and that is to play for a state championship,” Miami head coach Sam Baumgarten said after the game. “These kids have worked so hard and have faced so much adversity."
