Look: Calvary Christian Academy repeats as Florida 4A boys basketball state champions
LAKELAND, Fla.- Calvary Christian Academy left no doubt.
The Eagles, the No. 7 team in the country in the SBLive/SI Power 25, led wire-to-wire on Saturday to repeat as FHSAA Class 4A state champions with a 74-58 win over Andrew Jackson.
It's their third state championship in school history.
The Eagles were led by Michigan commit Gregg Glenn who finished with a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Carl Cherenfant finished with 16 points, and LSU commit Marvel Allen finished with 13.
“When we share the ball and get out on the break, we are a tough team to beat,” Calvary Christian head coach Cilk McSwinney said.
“We wanted to bring home another championship. It’s what we worked for all year long."
The Eagles are likely to secure a bid to the inaugural State Invitation Tournament taking place in Orlando next month.
Andrew Jackson finished the season 29-3 and had their 23-game winning streak snapped.
The Tigers were led by junior guard Michael Swift who finished with a team-high 14 points and four 3-pointers. Senior forward Stephon Payne added 9 points, while James Morrow and Andre Myers each finished with six points.
“We didn’t get off to the start we wanted to," said Andrew Jackson head coach James Collins. "We fell behind early and just couldn’t gain any momentum.”
“This was a great group of kids and I’m going to miss them a lot,” Andrew Jackson senior forward James Morrow said.
