As far as high school hoops go, it doesn't get much better than No. 1 Link Academy facing off with No. 3 Montverde Academy Friday (February 3) in a rematch of last year’s GEICO Nationals championship game. 

The two teams highlight a stacked field of matchups taking place during the 11th annual Metro Classic in New Jersey between Thursday and Sunday. 

They have not met since last year's national championship game, and both teams have looked the part this season as contenders for another appearance in the GEICO Nationals again in 2023. 

To say Link Academy and Montverde Academy have star-studded rosters would be a huge understatement. In the Class of 2023 alone, they have six of the top 90 recruits according to ESPN, with those players singed to play their college ball at Oregon, Duke, Kansas, Baylor, Oklahoma and Tennessee. 

Expanded to the Class of 2024, five more players are considered top 60 recruits with one of them already committed to the University of North Carolina. 

Whoever wins this game will likely cement themselves as the front runner to take home a national title this season and you won't want to miss a second.

Link Academy (22-0) fell to Montverde Academy in the GEICO Nationals championship in its final game last season -- its first-ever season -- but that was the last time the Lions lost. 

Now in their second year, they have started their season with 22 consecutive wins and look like a team with every intention of making it back to, and winning, the big game in 2023. 

Montverde Academy (20-2) opened the 2022-23 season ranked No. 1 in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings, but dropped out of the top spot following a 63-54 loss on the road to No. 7 AZ Compass Prep (AZ) in just its second game of the season. 

The Eagles reclaimed the No. 1 ranking on December 12 but were then shocked by unranked bubble team Mount St. Joseph (MD) in the semifinals of the Iolani Classic in Hawaii on December 20. 

Despite the two losses, they have held steady as a top 5 team all season. 

Will Link Academy continue its incendiary run to remain undefeated this season, or will Montverde draw from past experience to bring the Lions back down to earth as they did in the championship game last year?
