Port Charlotte’s Mike Progl is voted SBLive’s Florida High School Girls Basketball Coach of the Week

Congratulations to Oakleaf’s Jason Price, the winner of SBLive Florida's High School Girls Basketball Coach of Week award as voted by Florida high school sports fans.
Progl, the head coach for Port Charlotte, earned 88.68% of the 53 votes in a state-wide poll. After winning the Class 5A, District 11 championship against Mariner, the Pirates have taken their winning ways into the postseason. Progl led Port Charlotte to a dominating 63-22 victory over Braden River in a Class 5A region quarterfinal.
Here are all the other coaches that were nominated for Feb. 6-Feb. 11:
Talitha Brown, Land O’ Lakes: Winners of twelve straight games, Brown has stepped in as head coach just recently after coaching the JV team, guiding the Gators back in the region semifinal round. Brown led Land O’ Lakes to a 65-54 win over Nease on the road in a Class 6A region quarterfinal matchup.
Antonia Bennett, Lake Gibson: All the talk around Polk County when it comes to girls basketball usually goes to Winter Haven. The Braves have been playing really good basketball as of late under Bennett and defeated St. Cloud 71-53 in a Class 6A region quarterfinal.
Tony Davis, Rutherford: The top team in the panhandle all season long has been the Rams and Davis has the club on a current 19-game winning streak. Rutherford won the Class 4A, District 2 championship with ease and then cruised to a 72-34 region quarterfinal victory over Beachside.
Veronica McCants, Pine Forest: Though the Eagles lost in a close contest against Fort Walton Beach in the Class 5A, District 1 championship, Pine Forest bounced back in the region quarterfinal. McCants led Pine Forest to a 42-32 victory over St. Augustine to lift the Eagles into the region semifinals this week.
