Max Edwards out as head football coach at Miami Northwestern after nine seasons

Edwards is out after nearly a decade as the head coach of the Bulls

MIAMI, Fla.- After nearly a decade as the head coach of the Miami Northwestern Bulls, Max Edwards time has abruptly ended. 

According to Miami Herald’s David Wilson, Edwards has been fired as Northwestern’s head football coach after nine seasons at the helm. Edwards ends his tenure with an overall record of 70-25 with the Bulls.

The firing comes at an odd time during the the high school football off-season in Florida as teams are securing spring game and regular season matchups for 2023. Head coaches are still stepping away, but more at their own will and heading to jobs in other states. 

Edwards led Northwestern to three straight state championships from 2017-2019, with the first title coming in a 21-16 win against Armwood for the Class 6A crown. The last three seasons for the Bulls, though, haven’t been like the 3-peat run. 

In the last three seasons, the Bulls have gone 19-11, which included an investigation back in 2020 regarding Edwards holding what the school district deemed “unauthorized athletic activities” in the Covid-19 season. 

Edwards was suspended, but later on reinstated in June of 2020 and afterwards issuing an apology via social media. Northwestern since the 2020 has assuredly been a different program on the field, seeing the continued rise to prominence of neighboring rival Miami Central.
