Wesley Chapel names Lawrence Coleman as next head football coach

WESLEY CHAPEL, FLORIDA- It didn’t take Wesley Chapel High School too long to decide who would be the program’s next head football would be.
Wesley Chapel principal Matt McDermott told SBLive Sports Florida that he has tabbed former Gannon University wide receiver Lawrence Coleman as the school’s new football coach.
“We here at Wesley Chapel High School are excited for what (Lawrence Coleman) is going to bring to the program excitement wise,” McDermott said.
The hiring of Coleman comes three weeks after the school moved on from former head coach Anthony Egan, who coached at Wesley Chapel for seven seasons. Egan compiled a record of 34-34 during his time with the Wildcats.
Coleman previously served as an assistant coach at East Lake High School coaching wide receivers before searching to become a head coach in the area the last few years.
“I’ve actually been trying to land a head coaching job heavy the last two or three years,” Coleman said. “The whole school and community is hungry to really get things going there. I feel like the high school is a sleeping giant right now. We are going to bust our butts to get ourselves ready for the season.”
Before playing at Gannon University, Coleman played at Erie Community College and earned All-America, All-Region and All-Conference honors two times each and was the team’s 2009 Offensive Player of the Year.
