Montverde Academy names Matt Shewmake as the new girls basketball coach

Shewmake becomes the successor to Special Jennings, who is now the head coach at Jacksonville University

MONTVERDE, FLORIDA- The back-to-back national champion Montverde Academy Eagles girls basketball team has been searching for a replacement for former head coach Special Jennings.

Jennings was named Jacksonville University’s head girls basketball coach back on April 10 and the Eagles have found her successor. Montverde Academy on Wednesday named Matt Shewmake as the new head coach. 

According to the statement released by Montverde Academy, Shewmake was most recently the head girls' basketball coach with The Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee for the past three seasons. 

In the three seasons, Shewmake led the Feet to a 91-11 overall record including three consecutive Tennessee state championships and two national top 10 rankings. Also in addition to that, he helped one player earn McDonald's All-American and TSSAA Miss Basketball, along with six players being named to the All-Tennessee state team.

The Eagles are coming off a spectacular 26-1 campaign in which the only loss they suffered all season long was a 65-53 loss to Sidwell Friends (Washington D.C.) back on Jan. 16. Montverde Academy bounced back the following game with a 67-60 win over Long Island Lutheran, whom they would eventually defeat in the GEICO national championship.
