Let’s take a closer look at some of the best-returning players in high school football for the 2023 season out of Charlotte County (Florida).

Our list includes some of the best in the region and players who proved to be invaluable to their teams last season in making key passes, catches, runs, tackles and sacks at the end of the game, being clutch on offense or helping lead the defense as the top player in the county. 

Plenty of worthy names are on this list, so be sure to vote in our poll for who you think will be the top returning player for the upcoming season. Voting will close on August 31st, just in time for the start of the regular season.

Myron Charles, DT, Port Charlotte: Charles is unquestionably the most highly sought-after players out of Charlotte County. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive tackle has a long list of suitors after him, including Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Louisville. 

Edd Guerrier, RB, Port Charlotte: When it came to the top yardage-getter and leader in touchdowns, Guerrier was at the top of the charts on the South Suncoast. The junior runner rushed for 1,450 yards on 188 touches and found the endzone 20 times.

Eric Bell, DB, Port Charlotte: Port Charlotte's secondary wouldn't have been the kind of unit it was without the play of Bell last season. At defensive back, Bell totaled 40 tackles, 10 for loss and an interception returned for a touchdown. 

Jamal Streeter, WR, Port Charlotte: The leading wide receiver for Port Charlotte last season is primed for a huge 2023 campaign. The junior wideout hauled in a team-high 55 passes for 752 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Jayce Marcum, OL, Port Charlotte: The 6-foot-2, 300-pound offensive tackle was the top lineman on last year’s Pirates’ team and will be again this fall. He was a key cog for an offense that compiled over 4,000 yards.

Brady Hall, WR, Charlotte: Hall, at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds, has the size to lineup at receiver or tight end for the Fightin' Tarpons. The junior was a bright spot for Charlotte, catching 24 passes for 331 yards and five scores in 2022. 

Hayden Anthony, OL, Charlotte: Ideal size for the next level at 6-foot-5, 300 pounds, the junior offensive lineman was the team’s top tackle and will be back for the Fightin’ Tarpons.

Braden Krejci, LB, Charlotte: The Fightin’ Tarpons' top returning linebacker had a stellar 2022 campaign as Krejci notched 56 tackles, two for loss and an interception.

Dameyon Bloomfield, DT, Charlotte: Playing mostly at defensive tackle for Cory Mentzer, Bloomfield returns after making 23 tackles in 2022. Along with Krejci back at linebacker, the pair make the front seven a formidable group this fall.

Michael Ward, OL, Lemon Bay: The 6-foot-1, 260-pound offensive guard was the Manta Rays’ top lineman in 2022. Ward led the way for an offense that averaged over 21 points per game. 

Caleb Whitmore, LB, Lemon Bay: Whitmore flew around on defense for the Manta Rays in 2022. At 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, Whitmore returns this fall as the heart of the Lemon Bay defense. 

Taron Sanders, ATH, Lemon Bay: When the Manta Rays cruised past Hollywood Hills in the spring, Sanders was on the receiving end of a couple of big play touchdowns. Sanders had a big role on the offense last fall and should again his senior season.
