Lake Mary quarterback Noah Grubbs on pace for a historic sophomore season
LAKE MARY, FLORIDA- Chasing the Florida high school football state record of 56 touchdown passes in a single season, held by former Lake Nona quarterback Tucker Israel (2021), always seemed to be a long shot.
Cocoa's Blake Boda came within striking distance last season, but no cigar for the quarterback now at Coastal Carolina.
There's a quarterback that's currently on pace to not only surpass the record, but possibly smash it if he continues the tear he's on right now. That's Lake Mary sophomore Noah Grubbs, who has arguably been the top signal caller in the state through the first five weeks of the 2023 season.
You can try pointing to the level of difficulty that Grubbs has done it at, but throw that out the window because of the combined record of the opponents (11-9 record). Down below is Grubbs' stat lines game-by-game so far.
Dr. Phillips: 25-of-37, 528 yards, eight touchdowns
Oviedo: 14-of-24, 268 yards, four touchdowns
Lake Brantley: 19-of-28, 348 yards, five touchdowns
Spruce Creek: 23-of-34, 381 yards, six touchdowns
Season totals: 81-of-124, 1,525 yards, 23 touchdowns, three interceptions
Of course we will find out more about who else Grubbs can pump out the video game-like numbers against as the Rams have games remaining against teams like Mandarin, Evans, Apopka, Sanford Seminole and Mainland.
If Grubbs continues at his near 6-touchdown per game tear he's on right now, the super sophomore could be sitting with 58 scoring passes by season's end. Now, we think the numbers might tend to tail off a little as the competition begins to get a little bit more difficult.
What will really impress folks around the state is if Grubbs can lead Lake Mary out of a Class 4M, District 2, dubbed by many as the 'District of Death'. Reason being because Lake Mary is paired up with area powers like Apopka, Evans, Lake Brantley and Sanford Seminole. Each team could provide a viable argument to being a playoff team this fall.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound quarterback has certainly caught the attention of colleges all over the country with the number of offers he's already got on his plate. Grubbs has offers from major college programs like Miami (FL), Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Texas A&M, UCF and West Virginia.
56 touchdowns is the state record and needless to say, all eyes are on Grubbs as he continues on his historic pace this season.
Lake Mary's next game is at home on September 29th at home against Mandarin.
