We’ve picked out 10 freshmen boys basketball players in Florida that have stood out this season

We are just past the mid-point part of the 2023 high school boys basketball season here in Florida and there’s no shortage of underclassmen performing at a high level. It’s no surprise that freshmen are showing out in the Sunshine State as that’s been the case in the past many times over. 

This list of underclassmen features some of the top freshmen boys basketball players we’ve seen or have been on the rise in Florida. Take a look at our list and vote for who you feel has been the top performing freshman high school boys basketball player in Florida.

This poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.

Here are the nominations: 

Oneal Delancy, G, Gibbs: Playing for one of the Tampa Bay area’s top teams, Delancy has impressed in his first season with the Gladiators. The guard is averaging 17.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.5 assists. 

Cayden Daughtry, G, Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian: Anythime you think of the Eagles of Fort Lauderdale, it’s reminds of high level basketball. Daughtry has been playing at a high level as a ninth grader, averaging 14.4 points, good for second on the team. 

Marty Barnes, PG, Holy Trinity Episcopal: Helping the Tigers along to an impressive 10-1 record this season has been the play of Barnes. The freshman point guard is tied for the team-lead in scoring at 15.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists per game. 

Henry Robinson Jr., G/W, Mantanzas: Though it hasn’t been exactly a strong season for the Pirates as a team, Robinson Jr. has individually performed. The freshman wing leads all freshman in scoring at 21.8 points per game. 

Carson Crawford, W, Fleming Island: Coming into the high school basketball circuit as a freshman and making an impact is Crawford. The 6-foot-6 freshman wing is averaging 18.2 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per contest. 

Nolan Nelson, F, Creekside: At 6-foot-7 as just a freshman, the upside for Nelson moving forward is pretty high. Nelson this season is averaging 14.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 blocks a game. 

Michael Vilmenay, G, Westwood Christian: Down in Miami, there’s plenty of really good hoops action going on. For a freshman, Vilmenay has stood out among the rest. The combo guard is averaging 17.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. 

Calix McCune, G, Rocky Bayou Christian: When it comes to getting the bal in the basket, McCune has produced with the best of ‘em as a freshman. The combo guard leads Rocky Bayou with 16.5 points per game. 

Miguel Orbe, G, Miami Country Day: Another South Florida freshman guard that’s been showing he’s one to watch for is Orbe. The Spartans’ freshman is averaging 13.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals a game. 

Turral Berry, G, Frostproof: Let’s not forget the Heartland region of Florida when it comes to the hardwood. Berry has been ballin for the Bulldogs out of Polk County, averaging 15.1 points, 2.9 steals, 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists a game.
