Vote: Who is the best boys basketball guard in Tampa Bay?

We’ve put together a list of 17 guards that have stood out through the first few weeks and want your vote on who’s the best

High school basketball season is in full gear and district tournaments have filled the state from Daytona Beach down to Miami. No matter where you turn, basketball is now what’s dominating the high school sports circuit.

Especially in the Tampa Bay Area as the region has plenty of great high school talent all across the board. Teams all across Hillsborough and Pinellas counties have played well this season and have some good players to boot from both areas. 

That’s when we mention guard play. A couple of the most important positions on the hardwood. The point guard and shooting guard, both play a vital role in making your team go. We put together a poll on who you think is the best guard in the Tampa Bay area is?

This poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.

Here are the nominations: 

Jacob Daniels, Gibbs: Gibbs has the best record in Pinellas County and a lot of that can be attributed to the play of Daniels at point guard. The junior is averaging a team-high 19.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 steals. 

Oneal Delancy, Gibbs: The freshman has been one of the top scorers in all of Pinellas County this 2023-2024 season. Delancy is averaging 16.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists a game. 

Isaiah Campbell-Finch, Tampa Catholic: Knox scored 44 points in a narrow 81-80 loss to Tampa Prep recently. For the season, Campbell-Finch is averaging 24.0 points, 4.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 steals a game. 

Colby Cannizzaro, Tampa Catholic: The junior teams up with Campbell-Finch to form one of the top backcourts in the area. Cannizzaro is averaging 19.1 points per game through 25 games for the Crusaders. 

Chandler White Brooks, Tampa Prep: Can’t leave the sensational senior off this list. White Brooks has really proven himself to be one of the top guards around, leading the Terrapins with 18.0 points, 4.7 rebounds per game. 

Ace Taylor, Clearwater Calvary Christian: The Warriors shooting guard has been playing some solid basketball this season, leading Calvary Christian. Taylor is averaging a team-high 25.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. 

Daniel Delgardo III, Leto: The senior combo guard is doing it all for the Falcons. Delgardo III through 24 games for Leto is averaging 18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.7 steals per game. 

Nick Womack, Wharton: The Wildcats are sitting at 18-8 this season and Womack has played well at both guard positions. Womack is averaging 13.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. 

Jermal Jones, Bell Creek Academy: Jones can score points in bunches from either of the guard positions for the Panthers. The sophomore standout leads the team with 20.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game. 

Toni Bryant, North Tampa Christian: Bryant has come onto the scene this season and dazzled on a nightly basis for North Tampa Christian. The sophomore leads the team in scoring at 19.4 points and adds 11.2 rebounds, 8.7 blocks a game. Nearly a triple-double a contest says a lot. 

Jeremiah Cooper, East Lake: Cooper, a sophomore, has been impressive this season for the Eagles. The combo guard through 24 games is leading East Lake with 13.9 points, 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals. 

Nate Boakye, Jesuit: There’s plenty to like about Jesuit point guard Nate Boakye and he’s got the stats to back it up. The guard is averaging 17.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. 

Vernon Lee Jr., Seffner Christian: Another sophomore that’s really produced this season is Lee Jr. This season, Lee Jr. through 16 games is averaging a team-high 16.6 points and 5.3 rebounds a night. 

Corey Perlin, Countryside: The Cougars have had a nice overall season so far and a lot can be attributed to Perlin’s play. The junior is averaging a team-high 18.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. 

Nicho Simes, Clearwater: Another Clearwater-area guard that’s impressed in the backcourt is Simes. The Tornadoes’ senior combo guard is averaging 13.3 points, 2.2 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game. 

Austin White, Durant: White, a senior combo guard, has played exceptionally well this season for the Cougars. The senior is leading Durant with 22.0 points, 3.5 assists, 3.4 rebounds a game. 

Nijuan Harris, Lakeside Christian: It’s been a strong eighth grade campaign for Harris. Yes, you heard that right. An eighth grader on this list. Harris has played out of his mind for Lakeside Christian, averaging 23.8 points per game.
