2018 IN REVIEW

COACHING RESUME

Jay Dumas, first season

RETURNING STARTERS

Offense - 3. Defense - 3.

TOP OFFENSIVE PLAYERS

WR Marcus Cook, 6-1, 160, sr.

WR Jackson Curtsinger, 5-9, 170, sr.

RB Reymundo Gutierrez, 5-8, 170, sr.

OL Jesus Martinez, 6-1, 250, sr.

QB Jose Reyes, 6-1, 185, jr.

TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYERS

DL Edgar Carmona, 6-2, 240, sr.

DB Miguel Ceja, 5-9, 175, sr.

DB Marcus Cook, 6-1, 160, sr.

DL Kobe Rodriguez, 5-10, 205, sr.

LB Nick Sosa, 6-1, 190, sr.

THREE TO SEE

Miguel Ceja, defensive back

Like all good strong safeties, he’s physical and fearless, and should be top tackler

Marcus Cook, wide receiver

Pirates will move this outside threat all around to get him ball and manufacture big plays

Jesus Martinez, offensive lineman

Easily the most experienced blocker, the all-CBBN honorable mention tackle is a true anchor

OUTLOOK

The last time Dumas, an ex-WSU wide receiver, was with this program, he was the offensive coordinator for some of the best squads in school history (2007-13) before jumping back into the college game.

But now he is back, leading the rebuilding effort for a program coming off three consecutive 1-9 campaigns.

Dumas knows he has to be patient, and that is why he has emphasized other program core values early on, notably academics and community service, which he thinks will lend to better on-field play.

After a season off to concentrate on basketball, Reyes returns as the starting signal caller for the first time. At this point, he is more of a runner out of the spread attack, but will try and get Cook, Curtsinger and Tyler Girard involved in the short passing game.
