Hockinson's Levi Crum, a 2A all-state selection, commits to Montana as preferred walk-on

Hockinson two-way standout Levi Crum has committed to Montana as a preferred walk-on, the class of 2020 recruit announced Thursday on Twitter.
He took to the campus, the coaches and program after attending a camp there last summer. He'll play safety and primarily be a defensive player.
"For me, it fits me better," Crum said. "It gives me the freedom to go on special teams or wherever the team needs me at. QB was obviously a lot of fun. I played it for four years throughout high school."
Crum was a part of two Class 2A state championship football seasons at Hockinson (2017, 2018). In 2018 he threw for 3,800 yards and 52 touchdowns.
As a senior, Crum, a naturally soft-spoken individual, took it upon himself to become Hockinson’s emotional leader after the team lost Washington commit Sawyer Racanelli and Peyton Brammer — both all-state talents — to injury. He yelled. He pumped his fists after big plays. He gave supportive helmet taps to his teammates.
During the playoffs, Hockinson coaches gave Crum the option of just focusing on quarterback to preserve his body. But because of the injuries to Racanelli and Brammer, Crum insisted on doing whatever it took to will his team to victory, even if it meant not missing a snap.
Behind Crum's leadership, Hockinson advanced to the 2A state semifinals, before losing in blowout fashion to juggernaut Tumwater, the eventual 2A champion.
Brammer, a 6-foot-5 receiver/cornerback, is also headed to Montana as a flex tight end.
Crum is a two-star recruit, per 247 Sports, and also held offers from Carroll College and Linfield as a quarterback. His first cousin is Racanelli, a three-star UW commit.
It’s fitting Crum will be playing college ball on defense, a position he started and excelled at in high school, though he was more coveted as the team’s first team all-state quarterback.
