Parkview (Georgia) hands Newton its first loss

QB Jaiden Jenkins leads Parkview to win over the previously undefeated Rams

In a battle of two highly ranked Georgia squads, both with eyes on a state championship in 2023, as Parkview (6-2) visited previously undefeated Newton (7-1), 28-21, in a heavyweight high school football clash in the Peachtree state.

Parkview senior quarterback Jaiden Jenkins threw for two scores and ran for two more in as he put up more than 360 yards of total offense.

The following is our live blog with all the key plays from this exciting contest.

Final: Parkview 28, Newton 21

- Jenkins bulls his way to another first down to ice it.

- Jenkins runs for another huge first down. Panthers trying to close out the clock with 1:33 left. Newton timeout.

- Ball is loose on the pop-up kickoff. Parkview fumbles but recovers quickly.

Parkview 28, Newton 21, 4:43 left in fourth quarter

- Calwise, from the wildcat, scrambles right and then left before finding Davis wide open in the end zone for the touchdown. Kick bounces off the upright, but goes through. Rams within 7.

- Calwise dropped for a loss from the wildcat. Third-and-goal from the five with 4:35 to play. The Rams need two touchdowns.

- Pass interference in the end zone. Rams are at the one.

- Keon Davis makes a spectacular grab in traffic. First and goal at the six.

- Calwise gets his hand on a potential TD catch, but Crawford knocks it away in the end zone.

- Benson converts a third down run with the QB draw. Rams are at the 24.

- Calwise with a big catch and run. Rams down to the Panther 34.

- Newton misses a chance to cover a fumble on the punt, but a roughing the kicker call givew the Rams ball anyway, at their own 47.

- Parkview defense swarming and hitting hard. Newton has to punt with 7:45 left.

- A roughing the passer call gives the Rams a first down at their own 34.

- Touchback. Newton will begin at its own 20.

Parkview 28, Newton 14, 10:02 left in 4th quarter

- Jenkins sneaks it in for his second rushing TD of the night. Parkview now leads 28-14, after Barker's PAT, with 10 minutes to go.

- Rouse grinds his way down to the four and then to the one on second down.

- Wilson makes a first down catch at the Newton 9.

End of the 3rd quarter: Parkview 21, Newton 14

- Davin Rouse races for 43 yards, Panthers are at the Newtown 22 as the third quarter ends.

- Parkview will start at its own 27.

- Newton goes three and out. Rams will punt with less than a minute to play in the third quarter.

- Both defenses have taken control. Parkview turns it over on downs. The ball goes back to Newton.

- Jenkins breaks off two straight big runs. Panthers have a first down at the Newton 44.

- Bryce Coulson with a big catch out to the Parkview 42, as Jenkins snaps a mini-drought. 6:04 to play in the third quarter.

- After offsetting penalties on the first punt, Newton kicks again and the ball is downed on the Parkview 4. The Panthers continue to be saddled with poor field position.

- Newton stalls and will punt.

- Johnson gets two more for a first down. Now with 155 yards rushing in the contest.

- Zion Johnson blasts down to the 43. Third and 2.

- Parkview tries an on-sides kick to open the second half, but the ball bounces out  of bounds. Newton will take over at the Parkview 49.

Halftime: Parkview 21, Newton 14

- Jenkins last ditch hail mary attempt it is intercepted by Davis and that will be the half. After 35 points were scored in first quarter, the second quarter is scoreless.

- Carson Wilson takes a screen pass down to the Newton 32, two seconds left. Parkview timeout.

- Jenkins converts with a short run, 15 seconds to play. Ball on Parkview 36.

- Parkview faces a fourth and one with 21 seconds to play. Newton calls timeout.

- Carson Wilson move the ball out to the 23 with a reception.

- Rams cannot capitalize. They punt it back and Parkview is pinned back at its 8. Panthers have 1:06 to work with at the end of the first half.

- On first down, freshman Adryan Cole picks off a tipped pass. Newton in business at the Parkview 37.

- An apparent fumble by Parkview on the punt is waived off, as Newton touched the ball down first. Panthers pinned at their one. 

- Rams go backwards on this drive. They will punt with less than 3 minutes to play in the first half.

- Newton's defense finally gets a stop. Parkview punts it back with less than 5 minutes to play in the first half. After a short punt, Newton is setup at the Panther 39.

- Antonio Rice makes a leaping catch at the 21 for a first down, as Jenkins again throws out of the end zone.

- Throwing from his own end zone, Jenkins pass is tipped by hauled in by Wilson. However, an ineligible receiver downfield keeps the Panthers pinned deep.

- Something amazing just happened, we had a punt. Parkview has the ball at its own 10.

- Calwise with another first down catch at the Parkview 41.

- Marcus Calwise grabs quick one in the flat and runs for a first down. Rams near midfield.

- Unbelievable, Zion Johnson races for a 70-yard TD. Unfortunately for the Rams, the play is called back for holding.

End of 1st Quarter: Parkview 21, Newton 14

Parkview 21, Newton 14, :06 left in 1st quarter

- Jenkins hit Matthews streaking up the seam. After juggling the ball a couple of times, he sprints through a tackle and scores from 57 yards out. Kick is good and Parkview is up again.

- Brian Stokes makes a first down reception.

- A squib kick is scooped up by Parkview. It will start at its own 32.

Newton 14, Parkview 14, 1:17 left in first quarter

- 3-Star Georgia Southern commit Keon Davis hauls in a spinning catch and races into the end zone for a 67-yard TD reception. Kick is good and this game is tied again.

- On 3rd and 17, Johnson grabs a flair pass, breaks a tackle in the backfield and races out to the 35 for a 23-yard gains and a first down.

- Newton's second drive features better field position. They will start at their own 21.

Parkview 14, Newton 7, 3:54 left in first quarter

- Facing a 4th and 10, Jenkins finds Wilson open in the end zone and throws a perfect ball for a touchdown. Barker knocks through the extra-point.

- Michael Matthews takes a slant all the way down to the Newton 32. Panthers driving again.

- Carson Wilson takes it out to the 25 on a run around right end.

- Parkville will open its next possession on its own 12.

Newton 7, Parkview 7, 5:46 left in first quarter

- Four-star Zion Johnson bursts through a hole on the right side and flashes up field for a 93-yard touchdown run. Samuel Velasquez kicks the extra-point.

- Newton is pinned inside their own five. The Rams will begin their first possession at their own four.

Parkview 7, Newton 0, 6:42 left 1st Quarter

- On a 3rd and goal from the three, Jenkins plows in the end zone on the QB draw. Richard Barker adds the PAT and Parkview leads 7-0.

- Terrence Curtis bulls up the middle for 11-yards down to the Newton 11.

- Auburn commit Jalyn Crawford makes a nifty catch. An offside call adds 5 yards as Parkview reaches the Newton 27 on its opening drive.

- Jaiden Jenkins completes 2nd down throw to Mike Matthews for a Panther first down.
