St. Frances hands Mount St. Joe its first loss: Live score updates, BCL Basketball
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – It was another instant classic in the BCL rivalry between St. Frances and Mount St. Joseph in Phelps Gym on Monday night. The Panthers (14-6; 6-1 BCL) held off the Gaels (19-1; 5-1 BCL) 64-59 in overtime to jump MSJ into first place in the BCL with a 6-1 league mark.
The Gaels led 18-16 after one quarter, 30-29 at half, but the Panthers grabbed a 38-34 advantage after three quarters. MSJ rallied, and the game went into overtime at 50-50. SFA moved to 2-0 in OT games, and MSJ lost for the first time in three overtime games in 2023-24.
Donovan Flamer led St. Frances with 20 points, while Jasiah Cannady added 19 points for the Panthers. Jordan Brathwaite led MSJ with 19 points, while Tyonne Farrell added 16 for the Gaels.
St. Frances halted a 19-game MSJ win streak for the second time in two seasons, and the loss also stopped an overall 22-game Mount St. Joseph win streak dating back to the end of last season. In fact, MSJ is 41-2 in its last 43 games dating back to the middle of last season, and St. Frances is responsible for both defeats.
In the 39th overall meeting since SFA head coach Nick Myles came to SFA in 2011-12, the Panthers are 21-18 over the Gaels. Myles (131st BCL victory) passes Mark Amatucci (130) and ties former Towson Catholic coach Mike Daniel (131; 1986-2005) for 6th all-time in BCL victories.
