Every week during the 2020-2021 girls basketball season, SBLive will rank the Top 10 high school girls basketball teams in the state of Mississippi, regardless of classification.

Here are the SBLive Girls Basketball Power 10 rankings for Jan. 11, as compiled by SBLive Sports reporter Tyler Cleveland.

1. Meridian (9-0)

Last week: No. 1

The top-ranked Wildcats emerged from a long hiatus undaunted, thrashing Petal 68-16 before beating Madison Central 57-39 to stay unbeaten.

2. Olive Branch (10-1)

Last week: No. 2

The Conquistadors faced their first real adversity of the season following a 55-50 loss to Tupelo, but bounced back nicely with a 68-39 win over Lafayette.

3. Gulfport (14-1)

Last week: No. 3

Gulfport did not play last week, but is scheduled to take on Hancock Tuesday night on the road.

4. Columbus (7-2)

Last week: No. 4

The Falcons started off the 2021 portion of the schedule in style, thumping Grenada 50-37 on the road to move to 1-0 in Region 2-5A.

5. Hancock (13-3)

Last week: No. 5

The Hawks’ win streak ended at eight games last week with a loss at Harrison Central, but they bounced back with a 43-20 win over Bay High. They’ll get another shot at the Red Rebels this week.

6. Brandon (7-2)

Last week: No. 6

The Bulldogs started region play strong last week with back-to-back wins over Northwest Rankin (72-36) and Pearl (52-48). They have a non-region game at Madison Central Tuesday and a home date with Terry set for Friday.

7. Tishomingo County (13-1)

Last week: NR

The Braves now have signature wins over Choctaw Central, DeSoto Central, Pontotoc and New Site.

8. Neshoba Central (11-2)

Last week: No. 9

The Rockets just keep winning. Their 55-44 win over Holmes County Central last Tuesday ran their streak to nine games.

9. Laurel (9-1)

Last week: No. 10

Laurel moved to 9-0 against teams that aren’t No. 1 Meridian last week and established its status as the best team in Jones County, beating South Jones 62-18 and West Jones 52-23.

10. Choctaw Central (7-2)

Last week: No. 8

The Warriors bounced back from a loss to Tishomingo County with a 68-40 win over Kosciusko.
