Grace Slaughter and the Grain Valley girls basketball team got off to a slow start on Thursday night at Blue Springs.

Slaughter, a University of Missouri signee, didn't score in the first quarter and the Eagles trailed early after scoring just seven points.

Over the final three quarters, however, Slaughter and her Grain Valley squad showed what they are capable of. The standout senior guard scored 26 points and the Eagles ran away with a 58-39 victory.

Slaughter scored 10 of her game-high 26 points in the second quarter, as Grain Valley (17-4) took a 25-21 lead into halftime. McKenah Sears added 13 points in the win, which was the Eagles' seventh straight victory.

Jayla Cornelius led Blue Springs with 16 points. Nikole Schnell added 12 and Kayleigh Jenkins scored 11, including three 3-pointers.
