Lindsey Wilson of Mountainside enjoys WAVOR all-star experience before continuing her basketball career at Lewis-Clark State College: ‘They will push me to be the best me that I can be’

It took a bit of good fortune for Mountainside senior Lindsey Wilson and Lewis-Clark State College to connect. 

Wilson reached out to the Lewiston, Idaho, school the summer before her junior season. They replied to her email, but their message got lost in her inbox, and she didn’t respond to the coaching staff.

Not until Wilson began winnowing her choices down did she find the email from them, and she figured she would respond and see what happened.

“I’d never been to Idaho, never thought about it,” Wilson said following her 10-point, four-rebound performance in Sunday’s WAVOR girls basketball all-star game for the Oregon squad in a 126-91 loss to Washington. 

“I’d considered staying at home, but when I ended up taking a visit out there, I fell in love with the team. The girls, they’re such an amazing group of people, and their coaches are phenomenal. I know they will push me to be the best me that I can be.” 

Before she heads to Lewiston to join a Warriors program that reached the second round of the NAIA championships, Wilson hopes to achieve two final goals during her high school career — breaking the school record in the discus (she’s one foot away) and throwing more than 40 feet in the shot put (she already holds that mark).
