We have 10 athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s Lower State South Carolina Defensive Football Player of the Week from Sept. 7-8 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, September 16 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Here are this week’s nominations:

Jaden Cummings, Summerville

The Green Wave quarterback was remarkably efficient in his one half of play in an overwhelming 62-12 win over Wando. Cummings was 12-of-14 for 255 yards and 2 touchdowns in the runaway victory.

Sharod Williams, Philip Simmons

Williams ran for 195 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just 10 carries as the undefeated Iron Horses beat Timberland 37-13. One of his touchdown runs covered 87 yards.

J.J. Fludd, Porter-Gaud

The Cyclones’ star tailback carved up Heathwood Hall to the tune of 204 yards and 3 touchdowns in only 11 carries.

Ma’Ky Green, Cross

Green ran for 178 yards and 3 touchdowns on 14 carries in the Trojans’ 54-6 pounding of Scott’s Branch.

Braxton Scott, James Island

Scott only had to throw nine passes in the Trojans’ 49-0 win over Bishop England. He completed 8 of them for 240 yards and 4 touchdowns without an interception.

Trevor Kalisz, Ashley Ridge

Kalisz threw for more than 300 yards and 4 touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown in the Swamp Foxes’ 54-13 win over Colleton County.

Derek Grant, Conway

Grant showed again why he is an elite receiver by hauling in 7 catches for 216 yards and a touchdown in a 27-8 loss to North Myrtle Beach.

Greg Lihan, Harvest Christian

Lihan ran for 360 yards and 5 touchdowns on 21 carries while also getting 40 yards in receiving as the Hawks ran past Victory Christian 46-12.

Henry Rivers, Berkeley

It didn't take long for Rivers to become a star. The freshman quarterback threw for 321 yards and 5 touchdowns while also running for a touchdown as the staged a furious rally to beat West Ashley 40-31.

Samari Bonds, Beaufort

Bonds scored on a 43-yard run to break a 25-25 tie as the reigning 3-A state champions beat Goose Creek 32-25. The junior quarterback had 117 yards rushing. He also threw for 92 yards and a touchdown.
