Vote: Who should be SBLive’s South Carolina High School Athlete of the Week (1/8/2024)
We have 10 athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s South Carolina High School Athlete of the Week from Jan. 2-6 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Here are this week's nominees:
Justin Ray, Eastside, Boys Basketball
The 6-foot-3 senior guard had two superb games. First, he scored 28 points to go along with 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in a 69-64 win over Blue Ridge. Then, the Monmouth commit got 34 points in a 69-66 loss to Woodmont.
Alex Atkinson, Lower Richland, Boys Basketball
Atkinson had a dominant performance in the Diamonds’ 63-52 win over River Bluff. The 6-foot-9 senior scored 30 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Wyatt Wheeler, North Myrtle Beach, Boys Wrestling
Wheeler picked up his 100th career win this week.
Cole Gambacorta, Socastee, Boys Wrestling
Gambacorta won the 150-pound class for the Braves in the Shark Invitational at May River.
Jamarie Brown, South Florence, Boys Basketball
Brown led the way with 27 points as the Bruins opened region play with a 75-63 win over Hartsville. The 6-foot-3 senior guard made five 3-pointers. Brown also had 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in a 66-56 win over Cross Creek (Ga.).
Aysiah Bonaparte, Hunter-Kinard-Tyler, Girls Basketball
Bonaparte scored 23 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 4 steals as the Trojans beat Calhoun County 50-37. That was well above her season average of 10.6 points.
Khalia Hartwell, Westside, Girls Basketball
Hartwell had a big game in the paint with 12 points, 15 rebounds and 8 blocked shots as the Rams downed Greer 52-43. The 6-foot-5 freshman center is averaging 10.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4 blocked shots per game.
Jaleya Ford, Lake View, Girls Basketball
Ford scored 20 points in Lake View’s 44-35 win over Dillon. The 5-foot-6 senior is averaging 21.5 points per game.
Raina McGowens, Wren, Girls Basketball
The 5-foot-10 senior guard turned in two more solid performances. She scored 15 points and got 6 rebounds in a 48-31 win over Easley. Then she got 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in a 64-26 pounding of Fountain Inn.
Carter Bobbitt, St. James, Boys Basketball
Bobbitt, a 6-foot-4 senior forward, had two big games. He scored 24 points in a 54-46 win over North Myrtle Beach and 21 points in a 68-48 win against Christian Academy.
