Vote: Who should be SBLive’s South Carolina High School Athlete of the Week (1/29/2024)?

We have 10 athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s South Carolina High School Athlete of the Week from Jan. 21-27 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Here are this week's nominees:
Charles Judy, Edisto, Boys Wrestling
Judy went a perfect 4-0 in the 113-pound class as the Cougars won the 12-team Red Raider Invitational at Bamberg-Ehrhardt.
Aveion Walker, Denmark-Olar, Girls Basketball
Walker produced a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds as well as 4 steals as the Vikings rolled past Hunter-Kinard-Tyler 44-17.
Braylin Mungo, Camden, Girls Basketball
Mungo scored 28 points as the Bulldogs rolled past Lake City 85-20. The 5-foot-5 freshman is averaging 11.2 points per game.
Jaylen Tillman, Richland Northeast, Boys Basketball
The 6-foot-6 senior scored 24 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in the Cavaliers’ 51-49 victory over Lugoff-Elgin.
Michaela Fairwell, Dutch Fork, Girls Basketball
Fairwell produced a triple-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals as the Silver Foxes downed Lexington 48-33.
Drew Spires, Richard Winn Academy, Boys Basketball
The 6-foot-2 senior poured in a career-high 36 points on 14-of-20 shooting as the Eagles raced past Wardlaw Academy 86-42. Then he topped off his week by scoring 33 points and going over 1,000 for his career in a 65-24 win over Laurens Academy. Spires is averaging 19.6 points per game.
Michael Jones, Pinewood Prep, Boys Basketball
The 6-foot-5 senior posted 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals with only one turnover in the Panthers’ 70-41 win over Laurence Manning Academy.
Joyce Edwards, Camden, Girls Basketball
The superlatives keep piling up for the South Carolina commit. This time Edwards erupted for a school-record 52 points while also getting 18 rebounds, 9 assists, 8 steals and 5 blocks in a 99-36 rout of Darlington.
Aiyana Murrell, Lewisville, Girls Basketball
The 6-foot-1 sophomore posted a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds in a 45-27 win over C.A. Johnson. But that’s not all. Murrell also had 8 steals, 4 blocked shots and 3 assists.
Landon Butler, Woodruff, Boys Wrestling
Butler won the 144-pound class in the Wade Hampton Winter Classic. A sophomore, Butler improved to 38-4 on the season.

Mike Duprez became a freelance sports journalist for Scorebooklive.com several months after retiring from the newspaper business. A native of Oakland, California, Duprez moved around as a child due to his father’s service in the United States Marine Corps. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1981.
