Washington Wizards Rookies Key in Upset Win Over Pistons

The Washington Wizards have upset the Detroit Piston in what was a game that perfectly blended youth and veteran leadership.

The Washington Wizards are the worst team in the NBA by record but have a bright future ahead. Led by a new front office, the Wizards have already began amassing young talent. While other squads did not hunt for talent in a lackluster 2024 class, Washington ended up with a trio of young players that will be impactful to winning once it is time.

For now, the Wizards sit at 14-51, the worst record in the league by half a game. Though, there have been bright spots throughout the year and especially in the team's upset win over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday.

It was the Wizards kids who shined. Bub Carrington offered 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists while shooting 6-fot-12 from the floor and 1-for-4 from beyond the arc in 27 minutes.

In the starting lineup, the Wizards leaned on big man Alex Sarr who posted 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and a jaw-dropping four blocks in 30 minutes of action.

Kyshawn George was lethal on the defensive end to swipe three steals while to couple with nine points, four rebounds and an assist.

Washington also got a boost from Marcus Smart and Khris Middleton as the two veterans each logged double digit points and did a great job controlling the game for a young squad.

The Wizards are missing the biggest piece of its franchise –– a superstar –– but with lottery luck can land Cooper Flagg in June and if he is paired with Bilal Coulibaly, Sarr, George and Carrington the future is bright in D.C.
