Prospect Profile
After four strong years at Rutgers, Omoruyi transferred to Alabama for his fifth and final college season. He approaches the game with physical dominance, and that is what differentiates him. The center boasts incredible physical tools, which allows him to dominate in multiple facets of the game. Although he’s not quite a 7-footer, Omoruyi has the length, strength and athleticism to hold his own against even the biggest centers in the country.
As an offensive player, Omoruyi is fairly limited overall. He really doesn’t shoot it outside of the paint very often, as most of his shots are right around the rim. The Alabama center is a good lob threat and has the strength to clear out space for himself, but there’s not much reason for optimism when it comes to him developing into a floor spacer. Omoruyi has shown some flashes of a decent mid-range jumper, but developing a 3-point shot doesn't seem likely. He isn’t a playmaking big or one that does a lot with the ball in his hands for others, but he is a good play finisher.
Where Omoruyi does thrive is on the glass, proving to be a very effective rebounder on both ends of the floor. He has a nose for the ball and uses his strength to his advantage. As such, he’s a double-double threat every night with points and boards. He’s also a phenomenal rim protector and has been one of the best shot blockers in the country for several years now. He has quick bounce and long arms, paired with good natural timing.
Omoruyi has improved with each college season and has proven he can do it against the best at the SEC level in his fifth season. That linear development and the baseline tools he brings to the table will make him a prospect many teams would like to take a flyer on.
