Charlie Rymer

Charlie Rymer, a media star and former PGA Tour player, returned home to South Carolina to become an ambassador for the Myrtle Beach golf community.

The affable Rymer has quickly become the voice of Myrtle Beach golf, appearing on television, in online videos and podcasts to shine a spotlight on the game’s most popular destination.

The relationship is a natural one as Charlie is intimately familiar the market. He grew up playing junior golf in Myrtle Beach and annually vacationed along the Grand Strand before hosting the hit Golf Channel Show “Road Trip: Myrtle Beach.”

Hosting Road Trip and later “Big Break: Prince Edward Island” helped lead to a full-time gig with the Golf Channel, where Charlie starred on Morning Drive and helped lead the network’s PGA Tour coverage, among other responsibilities.

During his 11-year stint with Golf Channel, Charlie maintained his ties to Myrtle Beach. He annually returned to participate in First Tee events and emcee nightly festivities at the World’s Largest 19th Hole during the World Amateur Handicap Championship. Charlie also helped found the Gene’s Dream Foundation, an organization that honors the memory of Gene Weldon, a long-time PGA pro in the area who mentored Rymer and Kelly Tilghman, among countless other junior golfers.

Rymer spent more than 10 years playing as a professional and won the 1994 South Carolina Open on the Nationwide Tour. He recorded his best finish on the PGA Tour in 1995 at the Shell Houston Open where he finished 3rd, only one shot out of a playoff with Payne Stewart and Scott Hoch. In his most memorable moment on tour (and one of his favorite stories to tell), Charlie shot 61 in the 3rd round at the Byron Nelson Classic. He was paired with Davis Love III, who may have won the event, in the final group but more importantly, Charlie beat Davis the day before by 10 shots.

In 2016, Charlie was elected to the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame, one of his proudest moments.

In his broadcasting career he has put in countless hours for ESPN, ABC, CBS, USA Network and on Golf Channel. He has covered live events on the PGA Tour, Champions Tour, Nationwide Tour and the LPGA tour.

Known for his outgoing personality and southern humor, Charlie Rymer puts both players and fans at ease.
