SEC Does Not Take Action Against LSU in Conference Meeting

The LSU Tigers won't be receiving any punishment from the SEC stemming from the NFL eligibility saga, at least for now.

Presidents and chancellors of the SEC officially met on Thursday and decided to not take any further action against LSU for the time being. The Tigers elected to not add former NFL players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris to the 2026 roster amid risk of being expelled from the SEC.

Both players, who played under Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss, signed NFL contracts before eventually pursuing a return to college football this offseason A court ruling in Louisiana granted both of them another year of eligibility.

"The presidents and chancellors of the Southeastern Conference met Thursday by video conference to discuss recent matters involving conference expectations and responsibilities," the SEC said in a statement. "Those discussions will continue as the conference and its member universities work toward an appropriate resolution."

The SEC filed a lawsuit against the university that would have allowed the conference to pursue an action as drastic as removing LSU from the league altogether.

At the end of the day, Kiffin and LSU made the right decision by electing not to add Wright and Harris. The Tigers were also reportedly looking to add former Utah cornerback Blake Cotton to the roster despite him signing a deal with the Denver Broncos earlier this offseason. However, Cotton was not added to the roster either.

The Tigers clearly showed that they don't need to add former pros to the roster after dismantling Clemson in the season opener, 51-10.

The Tigers have been met with loads of criticism during this entire ordeal, and now one of the most notable names in the SEC, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko, has joined in.

"This is a little bit like the son figuring out where the limits are until dad comes home and raises his voice, and then the son goes, ‘I was just kidding, I didn’t mean any of that.’ I think that’s what you’re seeing. LSU will be in the SEC. ... This is just a little bit of parenting going on right now," Elko said, per On3.

Fans can disagree with Elko all they want, but he and the Aggies certainly have earned the right to deliver a few jabs at LSU after dismantling the Tigers in a 49-25 win in Death Valley last season.

But of course, that was with Brian Kelly coaching LSU.

Kiffin's group will look much different when Texas A&M visits Baton Rouge on Sept. 26.
