Alabama Basketball Freshman Davin Cosby Enters Transfer Portal

Cosby saw limited playing time this past season as a redshirt freshman.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Redshirt freshman guard Davin Cosby became the third Alabama basketball player to enter the transfer portal, doing so on Friday night, as first reported by On3.

Cosby spent a season and a half in Tuscaloosa, originally a member of Alabama's 2023 recruiting class as a 4-star recruit, but he reclassified to join the Crimson Tide in January of 2023. He redshirted the latter three months of Alabama's 2023 season before playing in his first collegiate action this past season.

Cosby served in a reserve role this season, appearing in a team-low eight games and averaging just 7.8 minutes per game. In the action he saw, he averaged 3.6 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists while shooting 34.4 percent from three.

He saw extended playing time later in the season when Alabama was thin at the guard position due to injuries to Latrell Wrightsell and Rylan Griffen. His best game came in a 14-point road comeback against Ole Miss, where Cosby scored a career-high 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting from beyond the arc.

Cosby's departure is the third so far this offseason, joining freshman guard Kris Parker and sophomore guard Rylan Griffen as members of the 2023-24 Crimson Tide team in the transfer portal. With Cosby's departure, Alabama now has one open roster spot for next season. Alabama has already added one transfer in former Pepperdine guard Houston Mallette, and more additions from the portal are expected over the coming months.

Cosby will have three years remaining of eligibility wherever he ends up.
