Alabama Basketball Guard Rylan Griffen to Enter Transfer Portal

Griffen is the second Alabama player to hit the portal since the season ended.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Coming off a trip to the Final Four, a second Alabama basketball player will transfer. Sophomore guard Rylan Griffen is hitting the portal, per a report from Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68.

Griffen went from playing a reserve role as a freshman to a full-time starter this past year after he grew an inch and made a leap between his first and second collegiate seasons. For the season, he averaged 11.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists as a major player in Alabama's deep NCAA Tournament run, while also shooting nearly 40 percent from three in one of the best offenses in school history.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Griffen was a originally a 4-star recruit and was the final remaining member of Alabama's loaded 2022 recruiting class that also featured Brandon Miller, Noah Clowney and Jaden Bradley.

Griffen scored double figures 19 times this past season, and scored a season-high 21 in two games, one at home against Missouri and one on the road against Kentucky. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining wherever he ends up.

With Griffen's departure, Alabama is now right at the maximum number of scholarship players for next season's roster with 13, though more departures can be expected by way of either the NBA Draft, the transfer portal, or both. Griffen joins freshman guard Kris Parker as players to enter the portal from the Crimson Tide since season's end.
