TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama football conducted its sixth practice of the 2023 spring practice season on Monday afternoon ahead of its first scrimmage, which is scheduled to take place this Friday.

Due to rainy weather conditions, the practice took place at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility. The players sported full pads for the duration of the two-hour practice.

Last Thursday, Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban hosted his weekly press conference. While the press conference was fairly short — lasting just over eight minutes — Saban took a moment to address the status of the team.

"We are making progress," Saban said. "This has been a great opportunity for a lot of young players. Everybody knows we have 26 mid-year guys plus we have a significant number of guys that aren't participating in the spring due to injury which creates even more opportunity for those guys. We continue to try and coach everybody on the team, 1s and 3s, 2s and 4s on another field so that everybody's getting coached. Everybody's getting an opportunity.

"We got a long way to go. We got a lot of guys that don't have a lot of confidence in what to do. Don't have a lot of confidence in how we do it and don't have a lot of understanding in why it's important to do it that way. But that's why we need to practice. Hopefully we can focus on what we need to do to develop and improve and not be so consumed about the outcome that we have. I'm not pleased with where we are. I'm not disappointed in where we are. I think it's a work in progress that we gotta keep grinding through each and every day."
