No. 25 Alabama Baseball Snaps Five-Game Losing Streak With Walk-Off Win Over No. 1 Arkansas

No. 25 Alabama baseball forces a rubber match against the No. 1 Arkansas Razorbacks.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.— The No. 25 Alabama Crimson Tide (23-12, 5-9) baseball team snapped its five-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the No. 1 Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday evening at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. 

The first four runs of the contest were scored on solo home runs. The Crimson Tide struck first with blasts from Will Hodo in the bottom of the second inning and Gage Miller in the third. The Razorbacks’ responded with shots from Peyton Stovall in the top of the fifth and Jared Sprague-Lott in the sixth. 

Alabama’s TJ McCants hit an RBI double in the eighth to put the Crimson Tide back in front, but Arkansas’ Peyton Holt hit a two-out solo home run in the ninth to keep the game alive. 

However, it was Alabama who came out on top after a rally in the tenth inning that started on a leadoff double by Kade Snell. Then, McCants reached on an error by Arkansas pitcher Jake Faherty and Mason Swinney, who pinch ran for Snell, scored as Faherty overthrew first base. 

"The game of baseball- it's a humbling game, it's a hard game, but these boys earned that [win] tonight," said Alabama baseball head coach Rob Vaughn. "They fought like heck and that's not just a tonight thing, I saw that last night in the loss, I saw in practice on Wednesday, I saw it in practice on Thursday. Fun game tonight, anybody that's is fan of college baseball had to enjoy the heck outta that but now attention turns to tomorrow. It's a quicker turn around, we gotta flush this and go back and get ready to try and take the series tomorrow."

Left-handed pitcher Greg Farone started on the mound for the Crimson Tide. In his ninth start of the season, the senior went five innings and allowed four hits, one run (earned), walked one batter, and struck out three. Tyler Fay and Alton Davis II made appearances out of the bullpen. 

For Arkansas, Mason Molina started on the mound. The junior pitched six innings and allowed five hits, two runs (both earned), and struck out six. Christian Foutch, Stowe Hewlett, Gage Wood, and Jake Faherty made appearances out of the bullpen.
