Devo Davis Dipping Toe in NBA Waters for Evaluation

Probably be back for another year, but at least getting information from next level

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — With all of the other shocking news around the weather Friday, Devo Davis' announcement didn't get big headlines.

Not that it should without the tragedy through central Arkansas.

Arkansas' junior guard leader made the announcement he's going to be looking at the option of going pro and apparently a lot of folks overlooked the key line in the whole announcement.

That's the key phrase I've learned to look for in these things. Usually when they keep that option open it's because they are going through the NBA evaluations and taking feedback from them to find out where he stacks up.

More importantly, they will tell him WHAT needs to improve for his NBA value to increase.

That's primarily because the only player known for sure that's gone is Nick Smith Jr., who made his expected announcement Thursday.

Trevon Brazile's announcement he's coming back for another year was a bit of good news and the only way Anthony Black declaring for the NBA Draft would be news would be if he had a change of mind and decided to return.

Let's face it, Black's choice can't be improved much and is a social media post to state the obvious.

Davis averaged a career-best 10.9 points to go along with 4.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

He more than doubled his three-point production with 47 made triples at a 34.6 percent clip from beyond the arc. He scored in double figures 19 times, including a run of nine straight games with 15 or more points.

As for freshman forward Jordan Walsh, he remains an enigma. The amateur talent evaluators are all over the place on him and Ricky Council IV. A lot of the more expert people tend to think both could improve to the first round with another year.

At this point, nobody knows for certain because the Razorbacks are parceling out the releases at various times, probably to maximize publicity.

It will be a busy couple of weeks, though. Stay tuned.
