Reaction from Razorbacks' Thrashing Not Surprising

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — After feeling very good with the Arkansas Razorbacks’ performance the previous two games, it returned to the status quo once again losing 95-74 on the road to LSU. When the Hogs fell behind 20-7 with 12:23 left in the first half there was no looking back for the Tigers.

Arkansas never pulled within single digits from for the remainder of the game, the sixth loss by double digits this season. Obviously, the Razorbacks continue to have an issue with defending the three as LSU made 12-of-23 attempts, led by Williams Baker’s 4-of-5, 25 point outburst. The seven-footer was nearly unguardable making 9-of-11 field goal attempts.

Of course, Baker hasn’t been a factor in every SEC game this season. The Nevada transfer is averaging 11 points per game this season and only eight points in SEC play. As it seems, it was total fate Baker went off today.

Between a terrible start, a minor altercation between Makhi Mitchell and Eric Musselman and a flat effort Razorback fans’ remain fed up with this team. Final four aspirations due to previous success and a star-studded transfer class was a cause for optimism. Now, there’s just a feeling of hitting reset on a team which sits 11-11 overall.

National blogs even see Arkansas’ struggles concerning. Two straight Elite Eight appearances plus a Sweet 16 last year made this season seem like a shoe-in. No way would Arkansas fall off the NCAA Tournament map but here it sits.

LSU was red hot from the field Saturday, knocking down 12 three’s. The Tigers success was hard to watch especially for the Razorbacks. Everything was going down, guarded well or not. Losing in the manner Arkansas has would drain morale out of any team.

When Tramon Mark transferred to Arkansas from Houston, he did so to display his offensive game. The Cougars spent most of its seasons as Final Four contenders annually with teams built on defense first. Sadly, Mark’s offensive ability has been solid but the wins haven’t been there to back it up.

Coming into the season, it was believed that Temple transfer Khalif Battle would be the offensive star to get Arkansas over the hump. However, his production has suffered and was nowhere to be found in second half. Battle played nine minutes shooting 0-3 from the field and pulling in a single rebound.

For Arkansas, they now return home again in seven days to play Georgia. The Bulldogs defeated the  Razorbacks by double digits at the Stegman Coliseum in Athens. Another embarrassing loss and the carriage might fall out from under the so-called ‘Muss Bus.’
