SEC Prediction, Odds for 2026 College Football Season (It's Time for Texas to Take Next Step)

The Georgia Bulldogs have won the SEC Championship Game three of the last four years, including two straight, and are once again favored to win heading into the 2026 college football season. It's once again going to be a loaded conference, as it always is, but if they want to reclaim the title as the best conference in football, they need to break the Big Ten's streak of three straight national championships.

Let's dive into the odds to win the conference this season, and then I'll break down which team I'm putting my money on.

2026 SEC Prediction

The betting market is looking at the SEC largely as a two-team conference between Georgia and Texas. Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M all have chances to win the conference, but the Bulldogs and Longhorns are a significant step above the rest on the odds list.

If you want to bet on one of the teams besides Texas and Georgia, consider the Oklahoma Sooners at +900. I considered them one of the more underrated teams last season en route to a berth in the College Football Playoff, ranking near the top of almost every metric you could find, including more advanced statistics like EPA and success rate. Their defense was one of the best in the country, allowing just 16.5 points per game, which was the fewest amongst all SEC competitors. With John Mateer entering his second year as the starting quarterback and the offensive line having much more experience, this is a team that looks like it's ready for another step in the right direction.

When it comes to the top contenders, I have some concerns about Georgia's offense. Five of their top six receivers from last season are gone, so there's a hole on this roster that needs to be filled when it comes to explosive playmaking. I'm also not a big believer in their quarterback, Gunnar Stockton. There's no denying they'll have a dominant defense, but that's not enough for me to bet on them to win the conference.

That leaves me with the Texas Longhorns, who had a strong offseason by acquiring key offensive contributors through the transfer portal, including receiver Cam Coleman from Auburn. Quarterback Arch Manning now has the experience and tools to be one of the best quarterbacks in the nation this season after showing flashes of great play in the second half of the 2025 campaign. The Longhorns seem like the most complete team on both sides of the ball, so I'll back them to win the SEC in 2026.
