Hogs Evolving Probably Shouldn’t be Surprising
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — As you were told months ago, see what Arkansas has on the court in mid-January before looking for answers.
That's what we've seen from Razorbacks coach Eric Musselman the last few years.
And it will probably be the case this year.
Except now we may not know until mid-February and whether you think that's a good idea or not doesn't matter. We'll know in April.
Now they get another road chance, going to Auburn on Saturday in an SEC schedule that is front-end loaded with road games. They lost last week at LSU before a home comeback win over Missouri.
"It will all even out," Musselman said Thursday afternoon. "With each road game, our younger players and our new roster kind of grows together. I don’t think there’s any doubt the LSU environment was new for all of us."
Last year Musselman didn't make the trip to Baton Rouge because he was dealing with shoulder surgery. This year he was there.
Now they go to Auburn.
"Everybody in the country knows playing a road game at Auburn is as hard as anywhere in the country," he said. "Coach (Bruce) Pearl has done a great job of creating an environment.
"The last home game they had, I watched it on TV, and it looked like they had a great student turnout even though we all know it’s still a school break time. That’s a really, really hard place to play and the record tells you so."
Especially for a team that may be starting to sort out the pieces after losing Trevon Brazile to a knee surgery and freshman Nick Smith to whatever is going on there. I don't speculate on injuries, but it won't be surprising to see him on floor a couple of weeks before tournaments start.
Now it's just another learning experience for a talented team that is short on SEC experience.
"You grow and you learn through those experiences," Musselman said. "Playing in Hawaii really helped us. Loved the environment in Tulsa, that was really good for our team.
"I just hope that we keep continuing to learn and grow and road games often times help you do that."
Saturday's tipoff from Neville Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be on the SEC Network and fuboTV.
