KenPom Predicts BYU Basketball vs Saint Mary's in WCC Semifinals

On Saturday night, BYU took down LMU 73-63 to advance to the semifinals of the WCC tournament. The Cougars got out to an early 10-point lead and never looked back, leading the rest of the game. With the win, BYU advances to take on top-seeded Saint Mary's in the semifinals on Monday night. Industry college basketball analytics leader Ken Pomeroy cemented his BYU-Saint Mary's prediction. KenPom gives BYU a 25% chance to win with an expected final score of 69-62 in favor of the Gaels.
As of this writing, BYU is ranked no. 74 in the KenPom rankings while Saint Mary's is ranked inside the top 10 at no. 7.
ESPN BPI, the predictive tool used by ESPN, is less optimistic about BYU's chances against Saint Mary's. BPI gives BYU just a 17% chance to pull off the upset.

BYU entered the men's tournament as the fifth seed. The Cougars had a first-round bye before taking down Portland in the second round. With the win over Portland, BYU advanced to the quarterfinals where they took down LMU on Saturday night. On Monday, BYU will take on Saint Mary's in the WCC semifinals, that game will be broadcast on ESPN.
With the win over Santa Clara, San Francisco advances to the conference semifinals where they will face Gonzaga. That game will be televised on ESPN2.
The championship game will be played on Tuesday. The winners of BYU-Saint Mary's and San Francisco-Gonzaga will advance to the championship game.
