BYU Cornerback Zion Allen to Enter NCAA Transfer Portal

On Monday, BYU cornerback Zion Allen announced his plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal when the transfer window opens on Tuesday. "Thank you Coach Sitake, Coach Gilford, and Coach Hill for giving me the opportunity to play and grow at BYU," Allen said in a post on social media. "I have made life long teammates and brothers that I am forever grateful for. With that said, I will be entering the transfer portal." Allen will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next school.

Allen signed with BYU as part of the 2022 recruiting class. He played just three defensive snaps for BYU over two seasons. He will likely seek a transfer destination that will provide a clearer path to playing time. In our post-Spring depth chart, Allen was not in the two-deep.

Allen's entrance is notable since it frees up a scholarship for BYU. Of the three players that had previously announced their plans to enter the portal, all of them were walk-ons. Here are the four BYU players that have announced their plans to enter the portal when it opens on Tuesday.

  1. Nick Billoups - Quarterback
  2. Jordan Kapisi - Kicker
  3. Benjamin Ward - Offensive Line
  4. Zion Allen - Cornerback

Time will tell if BYU uses that extra sholarship to get an extra cornerback or if that scholarship is already needed to meet the 85-scholarship limit. Here is our two-deep at Cornerback coming out of Spring camp:

  1. Jakob Robinson
  2. Mory Bamba
  3. Marcus McKenzie
  1. Marque Collins
  2. Evan Johnson
  3. Tre Alexander
