Viktor Lakhin Returning to Cincinnati for 2022-23 Season

The center flashed at times in 2021-22, but never found a consistent impact.

CINCINNATI — Cincinnati had two players enter the transfer portal this week, but one big man just made it clear he's still committed. Freshman center Viktor Lakhin announced on Instagram that he is staying at UC for his sophomore season.

Lakhin averaged 4.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in 10.9 minutes across 29 games this season after missing all of 2020-21 with a knee injury. With Abdul Ado and Hayden Koval on the way out, Lakhin and Ody Oguama are the only true options on the roster that can play the five.

Freshman center Sage Tolentino figures to be in the mix for some playing time this season, but Cincinnati needs Lakhin to take a big step. Don't be surprised to see them bring in a veteran center from the transfer portal as insurance.

The past two years have been a stop-start affair for the Russian as he dealt with nagging injuries and a personal issue this season. He enters the offseason healthy and ready to improve during a crucial development stretch for this program.
