CINCINNATI — Tyler Scott's speed was the stuff of legend at Cincinnati, and he could use it to break a coveted record at the NFL Combine next week.

Former NFL running back Chris Johnson broke down why 4.22 seconds is in danger of falling for The 33rd Team. Johnson's 4.24 second time ranks third all-time at the event, and he thinks Scott has a chance to break John Ross III's record.

"This guy came in from Cincinnati his freshman year," Johnson said. "They did a whole entire workout. He was so tired. He thought they was going in, the coach said, 'hold on, hold on, we want to see what y'all's 40-yard dash time is dead tired.' So he lined up. He ran for a 4.26 (second 40-yard dash), and that was as a freshman. So that's before he came into the Cincinnati workout program. Their speed program, all of that, and now he's training, right now, to get even faster. So I feel like if anybody break it. I feel like he has a chance to break it."

Scott has shown that speed over the past few seasons, especially in 2022 when he led the Bearcats in yards per catch (16.6) and touchdowns (9).

Running a 4.26 time dead tired is a lot different than the perfect conditions Scott will get to run in next weekend. Given that and the added training for combine drills over the past month—the record is officially on notice.

Catch the event next Saturday on NFL Network. The workouts begin at 1 p.m. ET and are available via fuboTV—start your free trial here.
