Three-Star Edge Rusher Jameial Lyons Places UC in Top-Five; Committing This Week

The Bearcats move to the Big 12 is drawing increased interest from the recruit.

CINCINNATI — An east-coast Bearcats football recruit is committing this week, and Cincinnati is one of his final five schools. Philadelphia Roman Catholic (Pennsylvania) 2023 edge rusher Jameial Lyons is committing on Friday at 1 p.m. ET. He moved the date up from Aug. 4.

According to Brian Dohn, the Bearcats are a prime school candidate for the three-star defender. Lyons has Penn State, West Virginia, Illinois, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh as his finalists. He recently gave some insight into Cincinnati's recruitment.

"I think it's a good thing, that they are getting acknowledged and they know they can keep up with better teams," Lyons said. "Last year, they had a great defense, and you can see they have some of the top players going in the draft and still on the team, and they have a good coaching staff."

According to 247Sports Composite, Lyons is the 479th-ranked recruit in 2023 and the 41st-ranked edge rusher. Rivals has him ranked as the 35th-best edge defender in the class.

UC safeties coach Colin Hitschler is his lead recruiter, and He would be the first edge rusher to commit in the Class of 2023. One nugget to note, Lyons attends the same school as incoming 2022 basketball recruit Daniel Skillings.

Cincinnati enters his commitment date ranked 12th nationally in 247Sports's 2023 team recruiting rankings.
