UC Football Portal Tracker 2022-23

UC is facing plenty of turnover in the wake of Luke Fickell accepting the Wisconsin job.

CINCINNATI — In the wake of Luke Fickell's exit from UC, many UC players and recruits are exploring other school options in the transfer portal.

This will be a running tracker of those moves, along with additions made by UC when the transfer window opens.

Tuesday, Jan. 17

On the eve portal entries close, UC wide receiver Drew Donley is exploring other options.

The redshirt freshman did not record any receiving stats this past season but appeared in 11 games as a special teamer. 6-foot-2, 180-pound receiver recorded 5 tackles and returned 5 kickoffs for 119 yards against Louisville.

Donley was a three-star recruit in 2021 and a top-200 receiver. UC has now lost over a half dozen receivers from last year's roster, but is restocking with Power-Five talent.

Tuesday, Jan. 10

Fifth-year defensive lineman Malik Vann got his medical redshirt approved and is returning to Cincinnati for a sixth season.

Vann has been a leader along the UC front for years and unfortunately got injured for the season after just one game against Arkansas.

From 2019-21, Vann posted 79 tackles, 8 sacks, 4 pass breakups, and one forced fumble

Saturday, Jan. 7

UC brought in North Carolina A&T transfer wide receiver Sterling Berkhalter for a visit this weekend.

The sophomore posted 28 catches, for 414 Yards, and 2 TDs on 14.8 yards per catch in 2022. He was second on the team in yards and catches.

UC wass his first Power Five offer (Dec. 27) as a player with three years of eligibility left. Cincinnati added Keyshawn Helton, but otherwise has a mostly bare cupboard at wide receiver right now, and the 6-foot-4, 188-pound playmaker could be a nice boon for that room.

He is a heavy deep target player that creates separation with his big frame and can turn 50-50 balls his way most of the time. Check out some of his highlights with the Aggies.

Friday, Jan. 6

The Bearcats added a third offensive lineman this cycle on Friday in Southeast Missouri (FCS) junior transfer Phillip Wilder.

Wilder has two years of eligibility remaining after swinging between right and left tackle at SEMO over the last few seasons.

The multi-year starter measures in at 6-foot-5, 303 pounds. Wilder joins Luke Kandra and Trevor Radosevich among UC's transfers in the trenches.

Check out some highlights of his play.

Thursday, Jan. 5

UC wide receiver Quincy Burroughs is entering the transfer portal.

The true freshman did not record any playing time this season after entering the program as a consensus three-star recruit and Top 100 player in the state of Florida.

He marks the eighth receiver from the 15 on last season's roster to leave the program. Cincinnati did add it's first transfer receiver on Wednesday.

More on Keyshawn Helton below.

Wednesday, Jan. 4

UC has it's first wide receiver commitment from the 2023 transfer cycle. Former Florida State wide receiver Keyshawn Helton committed on Wednesday.

The graduate transfer was with the Seminoles for five seasons, appearing in just two games last year due to injury. He caught 18 passes for 278 yards and two TDs in 2021, 14 catches for 119 yards and 2 TDs in 2020, and 17 catches for 239 yards and three TDs in 2019.

The 5-foot-9, 175-pound receiver should be a nice slot weapon in Scott Satterfield's offense. He will immediately have a chance to start with Drew Donley, Quincy Burroughs, and Chris Scott being the top receiving options left.

He can be a kick returner as well, amassing 554 return yards from 2018-21. Another need, as Tre Tucker and Jadon Thompson exit the program.

Helton has one year of eligibility remaining.

Western Illinois offensive tackle Sidney Fugar is visiting UC today and tomorrow.

The 6-foot-5, 332-pound sophomore appeared in nine games for the Bulldogs this past season, who play at the FCS level. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Fugar was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2021.

Utah State transfer edge rusher Daniel Grzesiak is visiting UC today and tomorrow. UPDATE: Grzesiak transferred to Cincinnati on Jan. 7.

He played one season for the Aggies after transferring over from Nevada in 2022 and was USU's best pass rusher.

Grzesiak led the Aggies with 8.5 sacks (23rd in the country) while being sixth on the team in tackles, with 51, including 13 tackles for loss, 2 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.

He has a similar build and motor as Ivan Pace Jr. at 6-foot-1, 245 pounds.

The graduate transfer redshirted as a freshman, and has one year of eligibility remaining if he wants to use his COVID year.

Friday, Dec. 30

Cincinnati offered Notre Dame tight end Cane Berrong heading into New Year's weekend.

Berrong was stuck behind elite tight end Michael Mayer to start his career but started finding a role on special teams as a freshman in 2021. He unfortunately suffered a torn ACL in October of that season and it left him buried into the fifth spot on Notre Dame's depth chart.

Sports Illustrated ranked him as the nation's No. 61 overall player in 2021 and 247Sports Composite had him as the 10th-best tight end and 238th overall.

Berrong's other offers include, SMU, East Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Toledo. He has three years of eligibility remaining at a thin position for UC.

Leonard Taylor and Josh Whyle are headed to the pro level, leaving Chamon Metayer and not much else in the tight end room. He posted 26 catches for 305 yards and 4 touchdowns in his senior season and could be a nice boost at 6-foot-3, 243 pounds.

The Bearcats offered Utah Tech freshman defensive lineman Justin Kirkland on Friday.

The 6-foot-4, 295 pound behemoth had a nice 2022 season for UTU at the FCS level, posting 40 tackles (6 for loss), 2 sacks, 1 QB hit, and 2 pass breakups

He has three years of eligibility left, and holds other offers from schools like Kansas State and Oklahoma State.

The Bearcats have offered an old conference rival player in East Carolina safety Jireh Wilson.

The redshirt junior posted 48 tackles, 3 INTs, 3 pass breakups, and 2 fumble recoveries in 2022. One of those interceptions came in the Bearcats win over ECU.

He was named AAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 24 and would bring solid versatility to the Bearcats secondary as they look to replace Ja'Von Hicks.

Wilson entered the portal on Dec. 29 and already has offers from UC, West Virginia, and Arkansas State, as of this writing.

Cincinnati offered Utah State edge rusher, Daniel Grzesiak.

He played one season for the Aggies after transferring over from Nevada in 2022 and was USU's best pass rusher

The graduate transfer redshirted as a freshman, so he has two years of eligibility remaining if he wants to use his COVID year.

Cincinnati offered Western Illinois offensive tackle Sidney Fugar.

The 6-foot-5, 332-pound sophomore appeared in nine games for the Bulldogs this past season, who play at the FCS level. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Fugar was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2021.

Cincinnati is focusing on wide receiver and offensive line during this transfer cycle, and they just offered a new player from the latter group in Houston offensive lineman Derek Bowman.

Bowman was a three-star recruit in 2020 and can play center, guard, and tackle. He appeared in all 13 games for the Cougars this past season and has three years of eligibility remaining.

The versatile mauler has stacked nearly 30 pounds onto his 6-foot-5, 290-pound frame since entering the Cougars program.

Monday, Dec. 26

Wyoming transfer wide receiver Joshua Cobbs got an offer from Cincinnati.

Cobbs played in 12 games this past season, hauling in 35 passes for 407 yards, 2 touchdowns and 11.6 yards per catch. He led the Cowboys in catches and receiving yards during the 2022 season.

Overall, Cobbs has 60 catches, 652 yards, three touchdowns and 10.9 yards per catch since entering the Wyoming program in 2021. The 6-foot-4 deep threat has multiple Power Five offers from schools like Ole Miss, Arizona State, and Texas A&M.

He is rated No. 288 overall in On3's transfer portal player rankings, and has three years of eligibility remaining.

UC's starting right tackle, Joe Huber, has entered the transfer portal.

Huber started every game this past season and finished as an AAC honorable mention player. The redshirt sophomore walked on to the program in 2020 and shot up the depth chart to win the job in fall camp this year.

He continues an exodus from the offensive line.

Huber joins James Tunstall and Jake Renfro as other players along the front who have declared for the NFL Draft or entered the transfer portal. Cincinnati has added two transfers to stem the bleeding, as highlighted below.

Friday, Dec. 23

The Bearcats are focusing hard on their thin wide receiver group. It prompted an offer to Troy transfer wide receiver Tez Johnson.

Johnson led the Sun Belt Champions in receiving yards (863) and catches (56) this past season, to go with 4 TDs.

The 5-foot-10 strong possession receiver has two years of eligibility remaining.

UC wide receiver Blue Smith entered the transfer portal.

The senior was a reserve receiver during his time in Clifton. He posted 5 catches for 62 yards this past season. He did not record any catches in 2021.

One of the top defensive lineman in the transfer portal got an offer from UC football over the weekend. Texas State's Davon Sears Jr. is on the Bearcats' radar.

Retained defensive line coach Walt Stewart made the offer to Sears, who has two years of eligibility remaining. He notched 15 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack and 2 pass breakups for the Bobcats in 2022.

Sears transferred to Texas State in 2021 from Ellsworth Community College after being ranked 55th in 247Sports's JuCo Rankings.

"After transferring in from a junior college in 2021, Sears impressed in his first year of action for Texas State," PFF's Max Chadwick wrote. "The redshirt sophomore was one of only 11 Group of Five interior defensive linemen to rank inside the top 25 in both pass-rushing and run-defense grades."

UC has offered Southern Utah transfer offensive tackle Christy Nkanu.

The right tackle could be a much-needed addition to an offensive line that's turning over a decent amount of talent.

Schools like Syracuse, Washington State, and Toledo have offered the graduate transfer, and he’s also taken an official visit to Arizona.

Nkanu was first-team All-WAC in 2022.

Tuesday, Dec. 20

The Bearcats offered Liberty transfer cornerback Chris Megginson on Tuesday.

The senior has started at cornerback each of the last two seasons as he utilizes his COVID-year of eligibility in 2023. He tallied 33 tackles, 6 pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble this past season.

The 6-foot, 190-pound clamper could be a nice addition to Kerry Coombs's DB room. Check out some highlights of his time at Liberty.

UC has lost it's 15th commit in the 2023 class as three-star safety Rohan Davy Flips from Cincinnati to NC State.

According to 247Sports, Davy is the 1,409th ranked recruit nationally and the 123rd-ranked athlete. Cincinnati now has just nine commits in the 2023 class.

The group is ranked 81st overall on 247Sports.

UC wide receiver Will Pauling has entered the transfer portal according to Bearcat Journal and The Athletic.

Pauling finished the 2022 season with 12 catches for 122 yards and 1 TD. He redshirted in 2021, appearing in four games with one 6-yard catch against SMU.

Cincinnati has now had 11 players enter the transfer portal since Luke Fickell departed for Wisconsin.

The Bearcats secured a second Louisville transfer in linebacker Dorian Jones. He joins former UofL offensive lineman Luke Kandra.

He posted 34 total tackles, 3 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, and 1 forced fumble this past season.

Jones entered the portal last Monday and wasted no time announcing his new home as he rekindles the connection with UC linebackers coach Derek Nicholson.

Jones played a backup role behind Monty Montgomery at middle linebacker this past season and should have a great chance to start in the middle if Ivan Pace ends up going to the NFL.

Monday Dec. 19

UC extended an offer to Texas Tech transfer defensive lineman Philip Blidi on Monday.

Across three years at Texas Tech he totaled 40 tackles, and 2.5 sacks. In 2022, the 6-foot-3, 295 pound mauler played in all 12 games, tallying 18 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.

He has a bevy of Power Five offers and has already taken a visit to Indiana, with another planned for NC State. He should have two years of eligibility left if he wants all of it.

Cincinnati added a second transfer this cycle and stayed in the trenches to do it. Penn transfer offensive lineman Trevor Radosevich is flipping his commitment from Colorado State to Cincinnati.

Radosevich has started 30 games at Penn since 2018. He finished 2021 as a second-team All-Ivy League lineman, and was first-team in 2022. The mauler had multiple Group of Five offers, but chose the Power Five route at UC.

Radosevich's versatility should mix in well on Nic Cardwell's offensive line. He started all 10 games in 2022, splitting time between center and right tackle on a line that allowed just 15 sacks all season, tied for the fewest in the Ivy League.

He was preseason first-team All-Ivy League and flashed a lot of athletic versatility for the Quakers.

Thursday Dec. 15

UC is in the top-five schools for Coffeyville Community College transfer safety Bishop Fitzgerald. The other schools are Maryland, Arizona State, NC State, and SMU.

Fitzgerald won the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year award at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. The Bearcats offered him on Tuesday.

He finished fifth on the team in total tackles (46). While leading the Jayhawk Conference with six interceptions, along with a fumble recovery.

Freshman UC cornerback JQ Hardaway announced he is transferring to Kentucky.

He is a big loss for UC as the second-highest-ranked player in the 2022 class and a decent rotation corner as a freshman.

Hardaway totaled eight tackles and one sack in his lone campaign at UC.

Tuesday, Dec. 13

An ACC cornerback is on the Bearcats' radar. UC has offered junior Wake Forest defender Gavin Holmes.

Holmes recorded 23 tackles and 9 pass breakups across 11 games in 2022. For his career, Holmes has 46 tackles, 13 pass breakups, 2 INTs, and 2 forced fumbles since 2020.

He could be an instant boost for a cornerback room that's losing starters in Arquon Bush and Ja'Quan Sheppard after this season. Sheppard entered the transfer portal over the last few weeks.

The 5-foot-11 cornerback has shown a nice competence against Power Five talent after entering the Wake Forest program as a three-star recruit.

Holmes is highly sought after, with offers from Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Tulane, Houston, Memphis, Kansas, Ole Miss, Washington, Baylor, West Virginia, Old Dominion, Oregon State, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Penn State, and Texas. The Longhorns are hosting him for a visit this weekend.

The Bearcats have offered two more players in the transfer portal and one already set a visit date. Penn offensive line transfer Ben Hoitink is on the Bearcats' radar and told 247Sports that he is visiting the program on Jan. 4.

Hoitink has been a mainstay on the Penn front over the past two seasons. He started 20 straight games over the last two seasons for Penn and 247Sports rated him a three-star recruit in the 2019 class.

He has one year of eligibility remaining after he graduates in May.

The Bearcats also sent an offer to JuCo safety Bishop Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald won the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year award at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas.

He finished fifth on the team in total tackles (46). While leading the Jayhawk Conference with six interceptions, along with a fumble recovery.

Monday, Dec. 12

UC held onto it's highest-rated recruit this cycle in Brady Drogosh, but they lost the one right behind him. Four-star safety Daeh McCullough is de-committing from the program and committing to Oklahoma.

His brother Dasan had a great freshman season at Indiana and is transferring to Oklahoma with Daeh.

According to On3 consensus, McCullough is the 350th-ranked player nationally and the 16th-rated safety. He was 208th and 16th in those ratings when he signed.

Daeh had been committed to UC since June. Drogosh is now the lone four-star recruit in a UC class ranked 57th nationally this cycle after losing McCullough. The dream of Cincinnati's first Top-40 class will likely have to wait another year.

Florida State linebacker Amari Gainer was in town this weekend for a visit.

The Seminoles active leader in tackles—Gainer has been with the team since 2018 and is leaving as a graduate transfer.

He finished his FSU career with 210 tackles, 19 TFL, and 6.0 sacks in addition to 5 forced fumbles. With Wil Huber leaving, and the Pace Brothers playing well enough to test the NFL waters, UC could really use some plug-and-play linebacker experience in 2023.

Gainer entered the portal with one year of eligibility remaining.

UC's top 2023 commit, Brady Drogosh, visited Clifton this past weekend and reaffirmed his commitment.

According to 247Sports, Drogosh is the 311th-ranked recruit nationally and the 19th-ranked quarterback. There weren't many rumblings that Drogosh would de-commit, but this currently cements his status as the Bearcats' best commit in 2023.

His dual-threat skillset was clearly still sought after by Scott Satterfield and the new head coach made the right pitch to keep Drogosh.

Sunday, Dec. 11

UC defensive end Mario Eugenio has entered the transfer portal.

The 2022 recruit was the program's highest-rated defensive recruit in the 247Sports era but did not play any snaps as a freshman.

He was suspended indefinitely from the team in early November.

Eugenio got the punishment after being arrested and charged with three counts of sexual imposition, a misdemeanor of the third degree.

Thursday Dec. 8

UPDATE: UC has landed a commitment from Louisville offensive lineman Luke Kandra.

More on Kandra below.

The Bearcats offered a trio of notable transfer candidates on Wednesday in Louisville offensive lineman Luke Kandra and FIU wide receiver Tyrese Chambers, plus a Coastal Carolina pass rusher in Josaiah Stewart.

Things are moving fast with Kandra—who is reportedly visiting Cincinnati this weekend.

Kandra redshirted his freshman year and then played in 16 games over the past two seasons for Louisville. He has three years of eligibility remaining to play for the Bearcats.

Cincinnati offered the Elder graduate when he was a Panther in 2019.

Kandra was rated a composite three-star recruit in high school and ranked 636th in the 2020 class. He operated at left guard for Louisville this season.

Chambers had a massive season for FIU in 2021 (45 catches, 1,074 yards, 9 TDs), but fell back to earth a bit in 2022 (51 catches, 544 yards, 4 TDs). He is a graduate transfer entering his final year of eligibility.

UPDATE: Chambers has placed UC in his top-eight school choices. The other seven are Colorado, UConn, Arizona State, UCF, Toledo, Maryland, and West Virginia.

UC will have to beat out a pair of rivals (UCF, WVU) and Deion Sanders to land the electric playmaker.

Stewart is the youngest of the trio coming off a decent season for the Chanticleers. The pass-rushing linebacker tallied 3.5 sacks and 44 tackles in 2022.

Similar to Chambers, he exploded in 2021 with 44 tackles, 13 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles. The sack total ranked fourth nationally. Now he wants a new home with head coach Jamie Chadwell headed to Liberty.

Wednesday, Dec. 7

Bearcats linebacker Leroy Bowers is entering the transfer portal.

The redshirt freshman appeared in games against SMU and Houston last season but did not play in 2022. According to 247Sports Composite, the Princeton graduate was a three-star recruit in 2021 and the 1,226th ranked player nationally.

Two more UC players just entered the transfer portal in defensive lineman Noah Potter and wide receiver Nick Mardner.

Both are first-year players at UC after transferring from Ohio State and Hawaii.

Potter ended the 2022 campaign with 18 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. Mardner posted 19 catches, 218 yards and 3 receiving TDs. The two entries add to the 8 total transfer entries since Fickell left for Wisconsin.

Tuesday, Dec 6

UC wide receiver Jadon Thompson announced he is entering the transfer portal.

"I am now fully prepared and ready for the next season of life," Thompson wrote. "With that being said. I have officially entered my name into the transfer portal with two years of eligibility."

The junior had two of the program's best touchdowns this season on a catch against South Florida and a kickoff return against East Carolina.

Now he is exploring other options. Thompson is the 16th-highest rated recruit in the 247Sports era. He finished the season with 27 catches, 393 yards, and 1 receiving TD.

Monday, Dec. 5

An interior piece on UC's offensive line is de-committing from the program.

Clearview (New Jersey) three-star offensive lineman Nick Oliveira is exploring other school options. He is the 11th player to de-commit in this class and the second offensive lineman.

Cincinnati's 2023 class is now 247Sports' 54th ranked group nationally.

The Bearcats have now hit 10 de-commitments from this class.

Miamisburg (Ohio) three-star tight end Jackson McGohan isn't signing with the program following Scott Satterfield's hiring on Monday. He is visiting LSU this weekend.

According to 247Sports, McGohan is the 608th-ranked player nationally and the 31st-ranked tight end.

"After talks and careful consideration with family and coaches," McGohan said in the statement. "We believe it's best if I look elsewhere. I will be decommitting from the University of Cincinnati."

UC is now outside the top-50 classes nationally as of this writing.

On the heels of Scott Satterfield's hiring, a pair of Cincinnati players entered the transfer portal in kicker Ryan Coe and cornerback Ja'Quan Sheppard.

Coe was best kicker to ever play for Luke Fickell at UC, turning into a consistent weapon down the stretch of season on field goal tries.

Sheppard was a strong replacement at outside corner in 2022 earning a spot on the All-AAC roster.

Thursday, Dec. 1

UC is keeping Dontay Corleone and Mason Fletcher but a different key piece is exploring other options.

2021 first-team All-AAC center Jake Renfro has entered the transfer portal.

Renfro would’ve been the starting center in 2022, but suffered a season-ending injury in fall camp and is exploring other options.

A pair of first-team All-AAC talents are staying with the Bearcats program.

2022 AAC Special Teams Player of the Year Mason Fletcher and PFF's top graded college defender Dontay Corleone are both staying at UC.

They posted the same Wolf of Wall Street clip to announce the news, and Corleone told 2023 recruits to "R.EL.A.X" as UC searches for a new head coach.

Both are massive retainments for the incoming staff to build on. They give Cincinnati entrenched pillars on special teams and defense.

Fletcher ended his season ranked fourth nationally in average punt distance and his 84-yard boot against SMU set a new program and conference record for single-punt distance.

Corleone posted 44 tackles, three sacks, and two forced fumbles in his redshirt freshman season.

Wednesday, Nov. 30

Badin (Ohio) four-star safety Braedyn Moore has de-committed from the Bearcats.

"I would like to thank the University of Cincinnati and the whole coaching staff," Moore wrote. "Thank you for all of the time and effort in recruiting and believing in me as a person and student-athlete. Thank you to Bearcat Nation and the community around me that has supported me. After a lot of thought and consideration, I have decided to de-commit from the University of Cincinnati and reopen my recruitment."

According to 247Sports Composite, Moore is the 333rd ranked player nationally and 16th-ranked athlete nationally. Moore is the second-highest rated recruit to leave the program behind Malik Elzy last month.

Monday, Nov. 28

Three-star tight end Kamari Anderson has de-committed from Cincinnati.

The Cass Technical (Michigan) star is the 486th-ranked player nationally and the 25th-ranked tight end.

as of Tuesday Nov. 29, Cincinnati has lost eight commits this cycle and is down to the 39th-ranked class nationally.

Four-star cornerback Amare Snowden has de-committed from UC.

"I want to first thank God for putting me in this position to be a student athlete," Snowden posted. "I want to thank my parents, my coaches and my teammates for helping me throughout this process. Thank you to all the fans, coaches and assistants at The University of Cincinnati. This decision was hard to make but after consideration, I will be de-committing from The University of Cincinnati and re-opening my recruitment. God plans."

According to 247Sports Composite, Snowden is the 410th-ranked recruits in 2023 and the 40th-ranked cornerback. Cincinnati is down to 16 commits in the 2023 class.

Three-star cornerback Jonas Duclona joined Ayden Greene in de-committing from Cincinnati.

According to 247Sports Composite, Duclona is the 1,044th-ranked player in the 2023 class and the 100th-ranked corner. The 2023 class is down to 17 commits and now ranks outside of the top-30 nationally.

Sunday, Nov. 27

Three-star 2023 recruit Ayden Greene is de-committing from UC.

According to 247Sports, Greene is the 458th-ranked player in the 2023 class and the 62nd-ranked wide receiver.

Three-star 2023 linebacker commit Trevor Carter is not fully de-committing yet, but he has re-opened his recruitment.

According to 247Sports, Carter is the 435th-ranked player nationally and the 36th-ranked linebacker.

Freshman standout corner JQ Hardaway is entering the transfer portal.

He would be a massive loss for UC as the second-highest-ranked player in the 2022 class and a decent rotation corner as a freshman.

Hardaway totaled eight tackles and one sack in his first campaign at UC.

Freshman wide receiver Jojo Bermudez is entering the transfer portal.

“I believe it’s in the best interest for myself and family that I enter the transfer portal and find the best fit,” Bermudez wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to Coach Fick, the entire staff and fanbase for this opportunity to have been apart of the Cincinnati family, times and relationship I’ll never forget. I have officially entered the transfer portal!”

Bermudez did not catch a pass in 2022 and entered the program as the 608th-best player in On3's rankings.
