Former Clemson CB Released by Cleveland Browns

In this story:
It’s been four months since the 2026 NFL Draft occurred, and while former Tigers are still getting their feet wet during the preseason, some of those same guys are just trying to stay on a roster.
On Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns announced that they had officially released former Clemson cornerback Jeadyn Lukus, who signed with the team on August 7.
The AFC North team was Lukus’ second stop in the pros, with his first one being the Tennessee Titans, who signed him as an undrafted free agent back in late April.
On August 1, though, he was waived and replaced by cornerback Mario Goodrich, who played for Clemson from 2018 to 2021.

Coming out of Mauldin High School (SC), Lukus was renowned as one of the best players in the country, ranking as the No. 30 overall recruit and the No. 7 cornerback, according to the 247Sports Composite.
As a true freshman, he didn’t receive all that much playing time, but caught the attention of Tiger fans during the 2022 ACC Championship against North Carolina, when he recorded two tackles and one interception in just 18 snaps.
It’s also worth mentioning that Lukus underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, which sidelined him for the majority of his first spring camp. He then suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder early into his freshman year, but he decided to play through it.
Before his sophomore campaign, he was limited again by injuries, as he underwent corrective surgery on his left shoulder in March of 2023, which affected his status in fall camp. Once the season started, he began to deal with hip issues, which limited him to just seven games and required right hip surgery in December, keeping him sidelined through the spring.
As a junior, he finally got the chance to start, and did so for the first 10 games. However, he struggled in coverage and with drawing penalties, which forced the staff to bench him for the final four contests of the year. Lukus finished the year with totals of 34 tackles, 1.5 for a loss, seven pass deflections and one interception.
He continued to deal with nagging injuries as a senior in 2025 — which forced him to miss all of fall camp — before making just one start throughout the regular season.
While Lukus’ collegiate career certainly didn’t pan out as most had hoped, he still managed to put teams on notice ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft during Clemson’s Pro Day, where he logged an 11-foot, 7-inch broad jump, a 1.46-second 10-yard split, a 6.95-second three-cone drill and a 4.41 40-yard dash.
After being waived by two NFL organizations in the past month and appearing in the Browns’ preseason opener, in which he recorded two tackles, Lulus will now look to make his presence known elsewhere and continue to gun for a 53-man roster spot.
