Before the Rockies-Guardians game on Friday night, Julian Lewis threw out the ceremonial first pitch. The Rockies official Instagram posted this.

“Go JuJu! Go Buffs! Go Rockies!” the caption said on the pictures and video of Lewis throwing out the first pitch.

Folsom Field, the home of the Buffaloes football team is just about a 25-mile drive from Coors Field, the home of the Rockies. It was cool to see the Buffs supporting the local Major League Baseball team and Lewis being a part of the pregame festivities for Players Weekend in the league.

Lewis is heading into his second season in Boulder. Lewis signed with Colorado as a four-star recruit in their 2025 high school recruiting class. As a true freshman, he saw limited playing time. Colorado rolled with transfer quarterback Kaidon Salter to start the 2025 season. When he struggled, the Buffs went to the backup, Ryan Staub. Staub only started one game before the job went back to Salter.

It took until later in the season where Lewis got his opportunity to start. He started against the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Arizona State Sun Devils. Overall, Lewis played in four games last season. He threw for 589 yards with four touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Because he only played in four games and not a fifth, Lewis retained his redshirt eligibility, which he opted to use. He is now a redshirt freshman.

Colorado is going to need a lot from Lewis this season if they are to turn around things from where they were a year ago. In 2025, the Buffs went 3-9, missing a bowl game for the second time in three seasons under coach Deion Sanders. Colorado hit the portal hard, adding 43 players. On the flip side, they saw 36 players leave.

Out of the departing players, this was headlined by offensive lineman Jordan Seaton and wide receiver Omarion Miller.

At wideout, Colorado did their best to fill the void left by their leading receiver from 2025, Miller. The Buffs landed wide receivers Danny Scudero, DeAndre Moore Jr., Ernest Campbell, and Kam Perry. How will their connection be with Lewis considering that it will be all of their first seasons together?

Colorado's offensive coordinator this season will be Brennan Marion. Last season, Marion was the head coach of the Sacramento State Hornets. In his lone season at the helm, Marion led the the Hornets to a 7-5 record. Their offensive was explosive, averaging 33.8 points per game.

Coach Prime saw this and knew he had to get Marion to Boulder. The Buffs averaged just 20.9 points per game last season, which ranked 116 out of all 136 FBS teams in the country.
